View Full Version : Marvelscape - Second Expansion?

HS Beast

Since there's only a couple months before "The Reinforcements Arrive" well.... arrive, now's the point where we should start thinking who and what we'd like to see in the 2nd round of Boosters afterwards. So I figured what the hell, since there hasn't been a thread like this that I can see... why not start one. It should at least tide us over til December.

Note: For the sake of the argument, let's assume that Hasbro is going to do what they did with the first and second release. That is release 5 traditional heroes and 5 traditional villains. I know Punisher is more of an Anti-Hero, but from a traditional standpoint he kills people. And was nothing more than a villain in the comics originally. Still technically is.

Heroes:
1. Cyclops - (Like Beast, we have one of the original X-Men.)
2. Daredevil - (We had Bullseye in the last expansion. Makes sense.)
3. Mr. Fantastic - (This would complete the original FF team.)
4. Storm - (An X-Man. Since there was none in the starter. Also ties to Black Panther.)
5. Thor - (A Founding Avenger - Along with Iron Man and Hulk.)

Villains:
1. Magneto - (An X-Men Villain. Who hasn't been represented yet.)
2. Green Goblin - (We've had 3 Spider-Man villains. Time for the big one.)
3. Ultron - (Just an interesting choice. Also quasi-guarentees Pym for 3.)
4. Sabretooth - (Another X-Men villain. Quasi-guarentees Wolverine for 3.)
5. Electro - (Another Spider-Man Villain. Since we've had 2 last series.)

Love when there's activity here. Anyway...

Heroes:

Mr. Fantastic
Wolverine (he's coming, may as well do it sooner rather than later)
She Hulk (Marvelscape needs more women, plus I love Jen)
Falcon (ditto for diversity, plus this set needs a low-cost flying hero)
Daredevil

Villians:

M.O.D.O.K. (this thread's about what I'd like, right?)
Green Goblin
Kingpin (just to have another turn order manipulator)
Magneto
Mole Man (FF villian for the now-complete FF, plus it allows...)

Third booster:
Mole People! (MS' first squad, packaged just like the Zombies, natch)

If they do Sententials I would expect something Jouten(SP?) sized and common (Though not necessarily a squad, if made as a squad it would be a squad of two...)

I think they'd probably save a Sentinel for a future 'Boxset' expansion. Same with Galactus. :)

I've got to admit, I'll be happy with anything, really. With all the customs out there, I think that I can play marvelscape to my hearts content. When the new expansions come out, I'll just play with them.

With that said,

I definitely would like to see Magneto, Wolverine, Green Goblin, Kingpin and DareDevil.

The only ones I'm strongly betting on for Wave Two are Mister Fantastic and Daredevil.

Part of me thinks the headliner X-men are being saved for some special large expansion....there was a cryptic comment out of Gencon that seemed to indicate that might be a possibility...I can't find the quote now though, darn the search.

I'd really like to see good and evil unique squads. SotM, Conflict Begins, the upcoming Marvel booster wave, and Waves 6, 8, and 8.5 are all unique-squad-free. The Rechets are kind of alone, even in a period of very heavy releases.

The Einar Imperium, Templar Cavalry, and presumably Marro Cavalry are showing what high-price commons can do, and the Marvels, TKN, Kato, etc. etc. are showing what high-price unique heroes can do, including lots of things they've never been allowed to do before. With all of their inherent weaknesses, unique squads that break the 120-point barrier could really be eye-poppingly powerful even by Marvel standards. There's been a fair amount of healing and flying range lately-- maybe we'll see a unique squad with one of those properties.

Besides, if the next marvel booster wave comes out with, let's say, six squad figures and four heroes, it will really reset people's fears (hopes?) for the lifespan of the Marvel Heroscape line. If they're no longer on course to burn through the heroes and villains at the rate of 20-30 a year, it sends a message that Marvel is going to stick around as long as it wants.

What I think we'll get...

Mr. Fantastic
Daredevil
A 2nd Tier Avenger character
A 2nd Tier X-Men character
Black Cat (since she ties in with Spider-Man)

Green Goblin
Mandarin
Mysterio
Kingpin
A 2nd Tier X-Men villain

What I actually would like to get...

Mr. Fantastic
Nightcrawler
She-Hulk
Gambit
Luke Cage

Mysterio
Mr. Sinister
Scalphunter
Vertigo
Mandarin

Okay, numbers three and four are so unlikely that they'll probably remain on my wishlist forever. But a guy can dream, can't he?

Actually, I could see them doing a boxset expansion for 'The Mutant Massacre' at some point. And putting Mr. Sinister and all of the Marauders in it. I'd actually love to see that. Especially of the terrain was sewers. :D

Yeah, you and me both. Cars, soda machines, dumpsters, warehouse with catwalks, throwable destructible objects, flames, non hero support (Mary Jane for 10 points to boost Spiderman's stats), more city stuff, etc.

I'll go hold my breath.

Lets see ... an enhanced version of Nakitas' Smoke Powder, a conditional opponent's-turn mind control (when your opponent takes a turn with a figure w/-in __ clear line of sight ... take control of the character for the remainder of its turn), & the Ashras' Defensive Agility.

All would work well with Mysterio and make a great character who is a real pain-in-the ... neck to take down.

Note that this is coming from a guy who, on the Marvel forums, goes by the name of Quentin_Beck and has recently come into possession of one of only 2500 Mysterio statues made for the Sinister Six set of statues, has attempted to collect every major Mysterio appearance in comic books, and sadly failed to put together a Mysterio costume for MN's Fallcon this weekend.

He's a classic villain from the age of Lee, long before the appearance of a pile of over-rated extra-terrestrial sludge known as Venom. He wears a fishbowl on his head. He has no super-powers, but he has had Spidey on the edge more than once.

Worship the allmighty Master of Illusion!!! WORSHIP HIM!!!

Okay, that was a bit too far. Only a bit.

I think future expansions should be Team themes. Large or Multiple sets of Avengers and X-Men for example. The Brother Hood of Evil Mutants or Even Apocolypse and the four Horsemen holiday gift set! :)
I just hope they stay away from Movie versions of Characters. I am SOOOOO very sick of seeing Spiderman 3 and Fantastic Four Movie stuff in stores. :brickwall: I would NEVER buy Movie versions.

I guess I need to drop my dime into the fray on this one!

Heroes:
Mr. Fantastic
Jean Grey
Ice Man
Angel/Archangel
Ghost Rider

Villains:
Green Goblin
Carnage
Vengeance
Magneto
Kingpin

These may be my first picks, either way I would like to see:
Finish the F4, round out the original X-Men (include other X-Men - wolverine, storm, et-al; with a sentinel X-pansion).

I would also like to see a large expansion based solely on the extra-terrestrial characters. You know, the ones who actually live and fight most of their battles in space! Silver Surfer and Thanos are a good start, but I would like to see more rules and terrain including clear, moveable "hovering" tiles/fixtures to imitate flying. Black space/abyss tiles.

I was the one who provided it after talking with Craig about the Sentinels and how they'd fit nicely in an all X-men Master Set or Large expansion. He said something like, "that'd make sense, wouldn't it" or something along those lines.

For a second set we really, desperately need squads or this whole idea is going to crash and burn, imho. As much as I initially loved the idea, Marvel still needs squads to provide it with more substance and strategy.

I could see it going without squads for awhile. Playing a strictly Marvel game is a different feel. After this first expansion comes out all 20 figures on the board at once is gonna look awesome. I've never seen HeroClix but I imagine it's pretty cool having the Marvel Battle of All Time.

Also agreed. While I'm sure we'll get squad types in time, there's so many heroes and villains that need to be addressed first that there's no rush. The game can honestly go years with just characters as many as exist in the Marvel Universe. :)

November 8th, 2007, 11:50 AM
Even better is the fact it can go on for years with only making ONE of every figure possibly 2 if there is some significant difference in character history (evil versions, costume variants etc). Totally unlike the avalanche of Elektra/Spider-Man/Batman remakes heroclix suffers. Marvel Heroscape has the chance to get super hero mini games completely right, hope they don’t blow it! (and so far they aren’t but they just need more product fast).

Alright, here are my predictions for the next wave of Marvelscape, plus my reasoning behind why each will be released next:

Mr. Fantastic - Hey, you got the other 3 FF members, gotta get the leader.

Daredevil - How can you have Bullseye with no Daredevil?

Ghost Rider - He's a movie star.

Elektra - She's also a movie star AND Daredevil's girlfriend.

Kingpin - If you have Spider-man, the Punisher and Daredevil, how can you NOT have the Kingpin?

Iron Monger - He's the villain in the up-coming Iron Man movie.

Green Goblin - He's the only Spider-man movie villain unreleased

Mephisto - He's a Ghost Rider villain AND the Silver Surfer's chief rival

Doc Samson - Along with the Abomination, he's one of the supporting cast of the next Hulk movie

Blade - How did this guy get so many movies made?

I agree that the Marvel game needs some squads to help flesh it out a bit, but that has it's own topic. Just to throw in one that I haven't seen though; how about Doom Bots(however that's punctuated). They'd rock as a nice squad to support Doom himself.

Back to this topic.

Heroes:
Ghost Rider - first 2-hex figure in Marvelscape?
Deadpool
Daredevil
Dr Strange
Mr Fantastic(just to round out the team)

I think an X-men expansion is almost a must. Perhaps a second Master with them and their standard group of baddies. If so then we must have Rogue, Iceman, Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, etc. Come on Hasbro, make all us comic geeks happy. :P

Misundertood:
Juggernaught(sp?)
Mysterio - call me old school, but why not an entire Spidey Classic with Mysterio, Vulture, Rhino, Lizard, Scorp etc.
The Russian - okay he's not classic but give the Punisher a good counterpart
Green Goblin - seems a no brainer so it's probably just a matter of time

Really? I thought January was a done deal, at least for the mainstream stuff. I can't wait to get the new large hero pack, but I really want those new Marvelscape heroes. It's a great game all its own, but hard to enjoy long-term with such limited selection! Does anyone have any word on when we might be seeing any New marvel Herosape expansions? Or any Heroscape expansions for that Matter. The New Master set is awesome and has me in the mood for more Herosape.

Hulk is a beefed up Krug. Juggernaut could be a beefed up Tor-Kul-Na and Blob could have ranged counterstrike.

Or Blob could just have cyberclaw/counter attack.
