OK just what we need is ANOTHER GC thread, Mods if you feel this should be merged please do so, but I was wondering if anyone else has a list of new games or expansions that they feel are a “Must See”

I just read that Mayfair Games besides debuting a new games they have the following specials

1. Mayfair Ribbon Quest –coming soon to Gen Con Indy 2006!!

“I offer two clay for one grain” shouts a man, holding up two red ribbons in the air, eager to find a trading partner at the ORIGINS convention. Sounds like a typical trading transaction you may encounter in a Catan game, right? Close! Mayfair Games, launched a fantastically successful program at this year’s ORIGINS show, namely The Great Mayfair Ribbon Quest™!

This quest is sort of Meta Catan game, which includes game enthusiasts throughout the entire convention. Here’s how it works: play a Mayfair game and/or attend a Mayfair game demo to receive a “Catan Resource Ribbon.” There are five different ribbons, representing the 5 different resources on the island of Catan, namely clay, wood, ore, grain and sheep.

Once you have earned a set of all 5 different colored ribbons, you receive a Knight of Catan Ribbon, the new Catan Event Deck, a coupon good for 50% off of a Mayfair Game of your choice (except the 10th Anniversary 3D Catan Game), and a raffle ticket!

We at Mayfair were all pretty excited, when we came up with the Ribbon Quest. However, the success of this program at ORIGINS beat even our wildest expectations. The result of the Ribbon Quest was stunning: one convention visitor after another was bitten by the Mayfair ribbon bug and everybody had a ton of fun. In the ORIGINS exhibitor hall, gamers were streaming in masses to the Mayfair booth to play games, attend demos, and trade their hard earned ribbons at the bank of Catan. The crowning event arrived with raffling off the 10th Anniversary The Settlers of Catan 3D Limited Edition, John Mountford of Canton, Ohio was the happy winner.

Eager to participate in the next Ribbon Quest? Your next opportunity to earn ribbons and cool prizes will be coming soon, at Gen Con Indy 2006 from August 10 – 13, 2006 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

2. And this is “almost” a free expansion I’ll be getting it First

The new Catan variant — designed by Klaus Teuber himself — will be not available on the game shelves of your local game retailer, but rather on their news rack!

Mayfair Games Inc. and "Games Quarterly Magazine" proudly announce an exciting new expansion variant for The Settlers of Catan™!

Introducing to the world of Catan, The Great River of Catan! A unique, three-tile, die-cut piece that brings the excitement of the gold rush to your The Settlers of Catan™ game and your Cities and Knights or Seafarers as well. This new variant includes: 1 three hex river tile to fit your base game, 10 new number counters, and special rules. All items are courtesy from us at Mayfair Games and the design is courtesy of the Catan designer himself, Klaus Teuber.

The Great River of Catan challenges Catan fans to race for the gold by building settlements and roads alongside the river tile. Those who build along its banks stand to profit from the gold craze sweeping the land, for they will receive gold for each settlement and road they build on the river. Once players have accumulated sufficient gold they may exchange it for victory points!

Where can you find this great new expansion? Not on the shelves of your favorite local game store, but rather on their magazine rack. This exciting new featured expansion will be available in the 10th edition of "Games Quarterly Magazine!" The issue will be released at this year’s Gen Con convention (August 9th through 13th). The magazine will be poly bagged to hold the special expansion. Supplies are limited at this time, so if you want an adventure on The Great River of Catan go out and purchase the 10th edition of Games Quarterly Magazine.

I've mentioned this before but Order of the Stick will have their new game available at Gencon and it is imperetive that I get my copy. Also FFG will have their new marvel hero game available as well. Be careful though as those games that are early released at Gencon can sometimes have errors and may not be as good as the ones released to the ganeral public later.

Is this a card game, tabletop or a miniatures game? :?:

I'm going to keep my ear to the ground at the Con as to what the hot games are. Then I'm going to find peeps to demo them with. On Sunday I'm going bargin hunting for the games I was most impressed with in demo throughout the Con.

I'm a little suprised that we haven't seen more announcements like what Mayfiar has put out. In years past all the Big Players have let you know a few months in advance what new "Game Crack" they would be pushing.

By the way fellas "Nice Hat"! :P http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgallery/albums/userpics/10002/icon_wink.gif

I've got a list, but they are mostly games that are already out... So I'm hoping they are available for demo. I guess I just don't keep a close enough eye on the gaming industry to know what's coming out and supposed to be good. I only know when fans start buzzing about how good a game is. I think one of these online board gaming empires like BGG need to have game companys send them early releases for review. (Or does that happen and I just don't know about it?)

Me too. I am really hoping a lot of the games (some newer) are available to to Demo, that is pretty much the sole reason I am going to GC, to demo games. And of course buy the ones I like :)

I'll be checking out Horrorclix for sure, as I just found out I'd be demoing/helping a few events here in September.

I'm with you on that. And hopefully I can score lots of Horroclix custom fodder.

I'm with you on that. And hopefully I can score lots of Horroclix custom fodder. I was thinking about working up some cards from the exsisting pictures we've seen already. Bringing some exta bases, basically chop and glue right on the showroom floor. Quickest Horrorclix custom ev-ah.

If you can post the cards here now and lets work on stats.

I'll make sure I bring an Xacto, Dremel set, and spare custom bases with me.

Do we know what comes in the starter pack? If so we can work on making customs for, as those are the ones we KNOW we will have in hand.

Here is a thread on the yet to be released figs and the cards that have already been made to represent them. That chick in the red outfit is so going to make an alternative agent Bale for me.

I think Zombie cop is also part of the starter set.

Yeah, I think zombie cop is included, the dog soldier, the tree too. One of the Razorvixens'. Tell me, has this been thought of before? The Zombies; 1 defense die, 1 (maybe 2) life. If they are to take damage, roll the D20. 1-8 is a "Leg-Shot", 9-15 is "Torso" & 16-20 is a "Head-Shot". Only a "head shot" will put them down. I was thinking a roll of 1-15 should maybe move the zombie back a space.

I don't know about that last one.
Any thoughts?

*Claims Braggin' Rites*

My very nice LGS owner at Jasco Games gave me a Zombie Cop that has a nice purple band and the word "DEMO" on it. :D
