I was on an anime website when I found a thread discussing "Mugen". This is a game engine that lets you create and download your own characters for a fighting game. I googled it and found tons of characters to download, but not the game/engine itself. So I was wondering if any one here has played/knows where to download it.

Here's the Wikipedia link:

Maybe someone can make Heroscape fighters!

I had mugen on my PC many moons ago. It's a pretty fun game. I don't know where to get it anymore, but I'll see if I can find it.

I didn't have a ton of characters, but I got a few good ones. Some of them were ridiculous. I had a Dragonball Z character that was absurdly powerful. Mega Man was the same. I had a Powerpuff Girl character that was so freakishly small that no one could hit her. Otherwise the downloadable characters were pretty good. I was playing a lot of X-men vs Street Fighter at the time, and Rogue was one of my favorites. I had Rogue on there, but she couldn't steal any powers like she did on the arcade game.

Heh. Fancy seeing this here. I have winmugen with approximately 900+ characters and the EVE screenpack. Takes about 5 minutes to load up due to the ridiculous size. It's currently 6.73 gb on my laptop - possibly the largest Mugen ANYWHERE.

I spent MONTHS on end working on Mugen and inputting all characters. There is no way to simply insert the file. Each character needs to be added to the select.def file, and if you're like me; you want them all categorized.

I have many common characters and plenty rare characters. I even spent a couple of weeks browsing japanese websites finding foreign characters.

It is a very fun game as long as you quality test every character. I did - part of the reason it can take months to accomplish something that large. I hook it up to my TV to play it with my kids.

The beauty of Mugen is, it can be as large or as small as you like and EXTREMELY customizable. Your choice of characters, screenpacks, stages, music... you name it.

Here's the link to grab it for windows.

You may have minor issues running dos mugen characters on winmugen.

Thanks for bringing this up - I'm gonna go visit some of my old Mugen forums and see what new stuff came along.

I may get off my butt and upload the whole 6 and a bit gigs as a torrent some time.

Thought I'd give you the link to the single most valued Mugen resource... The Mugen Fighter's Guild!

Be careful with leeching though. The whole Mugen community is not fond of leechers and warehouses.

I LOVE Mugen... I have a handful of characters, played a bit, but then I realized - I suck at Keyboard Controls.

So now it sits in a dusty folder somewhere on my PC.

That was what happened to me. That, and the fact that not all the characters "messed" Some were to strong. Id rather stick to official fighting games, like Brawl.

I would, but really... it's too much of a hassle. Even once I DID get it and set it up and all... I'd rather play different games.

I've downloaded it, but never have found a site with characters and stages. Can someone post a link? Also, how do you add music?

I think someone needs to make fighters for each HS general.

Drake
Kaemon
Cyprien
Sonlen
Carr
Woo

That would be cool, now... Though I still haven't figured it all out....

And a backdrop that looks like properly scaled terrain tiles.
