It’s Hot in the Midwest… I see Minneapolis to Kansas City is looking at highs of 100, and west of there is worse! This next week looks to be more of the same.
Not to worry I’m stuck in a metal box in the middle of a field with no trees for a week. Acutely it’s a motor home (with a/c) at a motor home rally….. However it is too hot and humid to go out and do anything. Right now I am thankful for Air Conditioning and wireless Internet – Without both I be.........

The last three days in Denton, Tx have reached 103 degrees. We are supposed to be above 100 for at least another week. This sucks.

You know what sucks even more? I work for the IT department of a building on campus. I do all the grunt work for them. I had to tear down a compuer lab (20 computers) move them out of the lab and install new desks, this is what I was doing last week. I didn't get it finished yesterday. So I have to finish on Monday.
The kicker is this, they are TURNING FRACKING A/C OFF in the building Monday through Wednesday. I have to finish putting these desks together and put the 20 machines back in there. Its going be like 95 here on Monday, with NO A/C at work?!!? WTF!!!1

It has been hot over the west coast for the past couple of weeks. Lots of 90's to 100's in the valleys and inland empire. Now, I get to go vacation in Las Vegas next week where the mecury really climbs.

The worst part is we are stuck in a drought here. It hasn't rained for I don't know how long now. We have a 50% chance tonight through tomarrow. If we don't get some rain soon, it bodes ill for the crops... and it's too late to replant. If your a farmer, loosing your crop freakin' sucks.

It's hot here half the year. We set some insane record last year for both the most days without rain and most days over 110 degrees. Now we have monsoons bringing in dust storms every few days. We don't have tsunami's though and the winters are perfect :D Only 1.5 inches of rain this year so far.

Well they turned that AC back on today in the computer labs here. THANK GOD! Thats where I am going to be doing most of my work for the rest of the summer. Setting up 80 new computers in 4 labs would have sucked without AC.

they just don't want the computers in the labs to overheat. they could care less about the carbon-based units. :)
working in the computer center and labs at college brings back fond memories...those were the days.

OK....It's now day six ... I would like to thank all of you that came looking for me... apparently none of you could find me! Thank you for your efforts. As it turned out the heat wave ended and we are all doing fine ( low 80's feel great) We even got a few rain showers but the ground soaked it up so fast, 5 minutes later you couldn't even tell it rained.

Pretty amazing to see it form and roll in. Sucks being stuck in one on the freeway though. Looks like we'll have another one today from the looks of the storms forming. Only 109 out today.

All that's keeping me from hating you is thinking about your winters. :P

Is Kansas upper midwest to you. I think it's the worst state weather-wise. It's still 110-115 and when winter hits it will be effing cold. You can't win with the weather here. I'd rather freeze my ass off than burn up. Why can't it just be winter all the time?
0rbital
July 24th, 2006, 12:00 PM
That does suck. We'll average in the 60s-70s for the winter and may hit freezing a few times for a low. We might get 3 inches of rain during the winter. The winter is perfect just hot (humid for a few months during the monsoon) the rest of the time.

For Texans yes, Kansas is upper midwest. :P
Kansas (and all of the midwest) is the place to go if you basically want to see every kind of weather there is. Super cold winters, rainy tornado filled springs, blistering summers, and actually semi decent albeit brief autums. You get it all there. Here in north Texas we get very mild wet winters (maybe a snow event every third year and almost always a daytime high near 50), usually wet and humid springs, super hot super long summers, and very warm falls. Frankly I'd rather be in Kansas for the weather because the heat never lasts that long.
And as for the folks in Arizona....unless you live in Flagstaff your brain got baked and that's why your still there.

I live 20 minutes from a lake. That's where I live in the summer :)
You get used to the heat though. I still go skateboard during the summer at the local parks. You just need to drink a lot of water.
When you have about 6 months of perfect weather, 3 months of warm/hot, and 3 months of hot and humid it's easy to get through the 3 months of nasty weather and put up with the 90s & low 100s before and after the monsoon season.
