Has anyone here ever played Fire Emblem for the Gamecube or Gameboy? It's my favorite video game series, with Path of Radiance for the Gamecube being my favorite. It's basically Heroscape with RPG elements. Really addicting game, with an actually deep storyline!
If you play, what are your fav units, and what skills do you give them?

Geez, I haven't played Fire Emblem in a good 2 years. Great games. I used to have the two for the Gameboy Advance. I actually liked them a little better than the one for GameCube, which I rented and beat, but never owned.
I always liked using as many Magic users as possible because they're attacks had a good hit percentage and they were effective against lots of different unit types.
Great games but I was always a Shining Force man myself.

I liked the Fire Emblem I played on GBA, and I have the one for GC, but I have not played it. I keep buying games and never playing them if they are not multiplayer : (. I have Metroid Prime 3 since release date, but havn't opened it yet. Maybe I am just so boring I bore myself.

I have played almost all the SRPG's for the PS1, PS2 and Gamecube. This is the only one I have ever started and not finished other than Tactics Ogre. I found the game annoyingly frustrating.
"I'll attack this guy. Oh, he killed me. I guess i'll reload my game and try again. I'll try someone new and see if they can kill him this time....hmmm, I died again. Maybe I should try a different character again. Ohhhh, he died to. How annoying, how boring, how unpredictable."
With no explanations as to why certain attacks and defenses are inferior or superior is just plain dumb. I chose to spend my time playing a game that made much more sense.
I know I am in the minority but that game was plain crap.
Haven't tried the hand held versions though. I have no time for those with the back catalog of console games piling higher every day.

i got the gba parts and the gc but fe is not a ”game” it is taktik in every move you want never lose one charkter. if.... new start the mission. and it is hard some times.
i think advance wars the brother is a littel better in who cares how many die i winn (ok ranking) but both games are grafic poor but high class game play.

I only have Path of Radiance but I loved it. I have to admit I had to keep restarting the chapters because I didn't want any of my peeps dying, but at one point I got really far and one person died, but I didn't want to restart because it took me ages to complete the chapter. I haven't gotten round to completing the game though. :?
Can't wait for the next version on Wii!

I got depressed once my axeman died... it made me sad... and I get sad when I throw away the water bottle I've been using for the past week, so you can imagine what a fictional human's death would do.

I'm the same when one of the characters dies. I must save everyone!
My favourites from the game have to be the Mages and the Horse rider, Titania!

I found sacred stones to be excellent. I don't know much about Radiance, but I know SS lacks the weapon builder feature. I have many hours invested in SS, and for $20 or less, its a pretty good deal.

I got past my units dying after it happened 30 times. I used to restart levels over and over and over again just to save a character or two. After a while I just said screw it and once they were gone, they were gone.

I got Path of Radiance around last Christmas when I got my Wii. Then, I was playing Twilight princess all winter.... I just killed the Black Knight, and the sequels coming our next month!!!
I've beaten Sacred Stones 5 times.... I loved that game. I unlocked all of the secret characters, too.... I tried playing it a 6th time, but then I felt a strange sensation I've never felt when playing Fire Emblem. I GOT BORED!!!!!!!
Oh, well, picked up Path of Radiance, and like more than Twilight Princess!
I like the fact that your people can die. If you make a mistake, you pay for it. It adds a little more realism. You can't be shot through the heart, hit by meteors, blown up by magic, assassinated, and get up right after the battle. Come on!
Sorry for the long post. Had to catch up on what everyone said. I'm also making PoR heroscape cards just for fun. I may post them when they're done.
(I think the Wii game was renamed Radiant Dawn, but I'm not 100% sure)

I just completed Path of Radiance yesterday.
I lost one character and failed to recruit 2 others.
I've been playing Sacred Stones aswell.
I hope that they introduce such creatures as the Skeleton Warriors and other monsters into Radiant Dawn because the Path of Radiance didn't have much variety in that sense.

I beat it a few weeks ago, with every character and no deaths. (I always play like that...)
My main characters were (In order of most kills...):
Oscar
Ike
Soren
Boyd
Jill
Volke
Rhys
Mia
Gatrie
Lethe
Reyson
I think that was the order... I'm sure about the top five. And I don't believe I missed any of my characters, either...

How's the animation in this one? The GCN version really bothered me for some reason. None of the animations had the same flair or quality of the 2D games and all looked really still and silly. Killed the game for me.
Lord Pyre

We're talking about the Gamecube one... And I thought the graphics were pretty good, except that the critical hits weren't as good as in the 2D ones. I missed the old Swordmaster critical, though they gave them Astra, which was basically the same.

i hope the wii version will look better. the gc grafik is not so great. the gba parts have more charm in grafik. and played more like an retro taktik game.
so if fe comes to wii or ds i have no problem.
but a ds collection with fe 1-6 would be great.

I usually play it so I don't get any deaths and reset the chapter but when Jill died I got Haar and decided to have her as a sacrifice.
My main characters were:
Titania
Soren (who I keep calling Sonlen) :)
Kieran
Oscar
Ike
Rhys
Boyd
Ilyana
Astrid
Rolf
Mordecai/Lethe (I used to use these two alot in past games but this time around I used them less.)
I think I used more but can't remember them now.
At the end Titania had the most kills - something like 221! Whereas I had some units that hadn't killed anyone. I love the Mages and Sages. I think the two units that helped me the most were definitely Titania because she can take multiple hits, and Rhys because he was the main healer and also gained the Light attacks.

I Love FE, PoR is my favorite, but I'm disapointed that the swordmasters in PoR are weaker than SS, Joshua and Mia are my favorite characters. so is Nephenee, but sheisn't a swordmaster, so she's irellevant.
I can't wait for Wii's game, Radient Dawn, i'm really glad they kept the Greil Mercinaries in the new game.

I'm starting to get into Sacred Stones and you're right about the swordmasters.
Also there are some returning characters from PoR in Radiant Dawn:
Sothe - is now the younger brother of the female main character.
Geoffrey - apparently now as a knight (like Gatrie) and not a arrow knight/paladin.
Maurim - the green laguz.
Jill - the wyvern rider.
Elincia - the Queen.
Lucia - a swordmaster.
Also this game is meant to have 44 chapters where PoR only had 29!

1. All characters from PoR are returning, except Largo
2. PoR had 20 chapters
And they are now making Fire Emblem DS with MARTH! It will be a remake of #1 and #3(which is a remake of 1)

FE games are quite awesome. I tried finding ROMs of the older Super-Nintendo ones but couldn’t find any translations. As is I’ve played both GBA games through and really enjoyed them. I actually really liked the “death is forever” aspect because it forced you to make the best choices and sometimes you just had to suck it up and deal with death.
I recall beating the first GBA game with a horrific casualty list on the last boss. I found it rather fitting that the final boss got to grind up a few (like 6+ before I figured out what to do) heroes before being put down. It amused me to look back at the end credit messages that relayed the final fate of all the characters inculding dates of death. Great games, too bad I don’t care for the Cube/Wii.

Fire Emblem (GBA)-Awsome!
Sacred Stones (GBA)-Great, little to easy, might be the 5 times I beat it
Path of Radience (GC)-Great, to many characters!!!
Radient Dawn (Wii)-INCREDIBLE!!! BEST!!! Your "Lord" is a mage! If you didn't guess, I'm playing this one now. You gotta get the stratigy guide.

Lord Pyre is smart to play the GC one a couple more times. He's racking up on support conversations so when he does get FE 10 he will start off with a bunch of supports. Thus giving him the upper hand!
Lord Pyre, go to You Tube and watch the first cut scene, it'll make you want to beat the FE 9 a lot faster!!!. Thank goodness, HeroscaperHuh has joined. Have you played Sword of Sealing (The one with Roy)? A friend just got a copy for me. FE 10 is definitely the best yet, but FE 7 is a close second in my opinion.

Right now I'm playing Genealogy of the Holy War. Really good, but I don't understand why everyone likes Sigurd... Ike and Ephraim seem so much cooler... And better gameplay-wise. Of course, I'm only a few chapters in, but....

I've never even seen a picture of Sigurd that I can remember at least... I have never played Geneology of the Holy War either. I personly think that Ike and Lyn are the best lords followed by Hector and Ephraim. I'm still a little upset that Lyn is just a support statue and not playable. :ninja:

Lord Pyre
January 11th, 2008, 10:06 AM
As a character she's pretty cool, but as a unit in the game she's not that good. Too slow..... Reminds me of Knoll from Sacred Stones. A really cool character, but not that great as a unit...
dragonfire
January 11th, 2008, 07:40 PM
I agree with that 100%. Also, she never kills anyone. I had her level 20/20/20 and she was only doing 25 damage to people with much more health than that. It was frustrating not being able to kill with your leader, who is supposed to be your rock, your most trusted unit. Like Ike. Or Elincia in her missions.
Lord Pyre
January 11th, 2008, 08:34 PM
Where I'm at, she's doing some pretty decent damage, but she's got a speed of about 10, to an enemy axefighter's 16. Not good....

I got my copy back, repaired and ready to go, but I guess you guys didn't decide to talk spoilers after all. I think Miciaha is kind of weak... but I like to use weak charactors and make them stong. Ex: I made a 20/20 Matthew and Florina and then used Florina with her 2 sisters for the triangle formation attack.
By the way... Can you do the Triangle formation attack on Radient Dawn or Path of Radience with any of the charactors??? I think that was a fun trick, that, and the secret mine glitch. Ahhhh, The Good Ol' Days! :ninja:
Lord Pyre
February 12th, 2008, 09:30 PM
In Path of Radiance, you could do the triangle attack with the three brothers, (Boyd, Rolf, Oscar) If you gave them all bows. I don't know about Radiant Dawn, as Boyd can't use bows anymore...
Oh, and I'm at the end of part 3, so we can talk spoilers, soon. :)

Just picked RD up last month, and finally beat it. I absolutely LOVED this game, every aspect about it was awesome, except for a few things.
For starters, why does everybody on Macaiah's team, (besides Sothe, seeing as he's already 2nd tier) seem to have ridiculously low stats, yet when the GM arrive they're all uber-powerful? And I thought it was a good idea that they nerfed the Laguz, but I think they were a bit too drastic, seeing as now I can't keep a Laguz in the frontlines, without worrying their shift meter will deplete from enemy fire and be killed on their first untransformed blow.
Just my opinions, and did anyone else find that Meg and Fiona were worthless beyond reason?
Bloody the Marro Stinger
June 22nd, 2008, 08:04 PM
GM? What? I know the plot of the game, but apparently you are using some abbreviation I'm not familiar with...
I haven't beaten it yet, as I've only just started playing it, but Miciaha's team sucks horribly - good thing I'm about to beat Part 1 (it should also be noted I know who all the units are). Miciaha herself isn't a very good unit, Leonardo is inferior to Shinon, Meg starts at level 3, far too low to even consider raising her, Laura is horribly outclassed by Elincia, Fiona is just bad, Tauroneo has little time to get to 0/20/15 for the final chapter due to only being avalible for only 6 chapters before the final compared to how many Grom and Batrie are avalible, Volug is just an outright waste of exp because his growths are terrible, Tormod, Muarim, and Vika are only avalible for 5 chapters, making it downright impossible to level them up, Sothe can't kill anything on Maniac/Hard (depending on which version you're playing - Japanese Maniac is the same as American Hard) in the endgame in one hit, Rafiel gets outclassed by Reyson, and the Black Knight is a noob detector, making the amount of units in Miciaha's party you can bring to the endgame limited to about 2-3, and one of those should be Sothe since you're forced to take him. I'll be so happy when I get Harr and am able to destroy absolutely everything.

At the beginning it's like that, because if everyone but Miciah dies, you've got a serious problem.
That changes later in the game. But I wouldn't suggest starting out the series on Radiant Dawn, since it's one of the hardest. Try picking up Sacred Stones, for Game Boy Advance. It's the easiest, I think, and still a great game.

I guess I'm just used to Shining Force, where I can just go to the town after the battle and have my characters resurrected by the priest (or Peter, who just resurrects himself). It's time for me to come into the real world, baby! When someone dies, they're dead. And it's not just a serious problem - you are starting the entire battle over again, even if there was one enemy left and you have your whole team. Deal with it!
I learned to use Sothe and the big dude with the axe kinda like Deathreavers - clogging up choke points and tying up the enemy, since they can take some punishment and not die. I'm doing OK with it, I just haven't played it in a while after I got to the end of the battle where you get Laura (i think), and she died when there was like, 2 guys left. Not to mention I hadn't saved it in the middle of the battle, so I have to start over now.... I was like, "screw that, I'm playing Mario Galaxy, where I can get a million lives very easily."

September 8th, 2008, 08:26 PM
I didn't. I haven't played past the last chapter in Macaiah's part (got bored... shame on me), but that wasn't hard at all. If you leave Macaiah in the place she starts out on and the Black Knight directly in front of her, only the two-range guys can hit her, and with a Thani she can kill those easily. I actually got her to twenty via that level from 17.

I've got a question for you guys. My brother and I have beaten Radiant Dawn a couple times, but there's still one open space left on the big character map (It's one the bottom row about two-thirds of the way to the right side). Does anyone know what you have to do to get that filled in?
