View Full Version : Am I the only one that doesn't care about sparkly water?

I just don't like it. I guess it is ok, but lava and swamp does not go with it.

I don't get what is the big deal is.

Have you seen the sparkly water? I was upset when I compared my friends sparkly water and separate attack and defense dice compared to my bland water and white dice.

I have separate dice and bland water. So I got good dice and, in my opinion, good water. Plus, i'd much rather drink water than glitter water.

The big deal with Sparkly Water is that it's extremely rare. I don't understand how bland water could possibly be better. You really have to look at Sparkly Water to believe it.

Sparkly water doesn't seem to mix well with the regular, bland water so it doesn't really look great if you mix and match the sets. It's also a little translucent so whatever ugly table surface you have beneath shows through.

I love the sparkly water! I recently bought 3 sets from Draconious and IMO it is far better looking than the normal water.

Meh, the table part doesn't matter for me, as I play on my bedroom carpet. No one will pay attention to your ugly table surface, in my opinion, anyway through the sparkly water.

Okay, I didn't want to start a new thread or poll for this, so:

I can sort of understand the sparkly water love, although I voted "not really, it's OK." But I've never gotten the love for separate dice. From what I've seen they don't look any cooler and having to make sure you roll the correct dice for any roll seems to be a slight and unnecessary pain in the butt. I like having a massive dice pool anyone can just scoop up and roll. When we play we usually just roll the same dice when defending that the attacker just rolled. Also, we'd never have to worry about not having enough attack or defense dice to roll them all at once. (Almost never a problem anyway, but with some of the Marvel figs + height + glyphs it can happen. Silver Surfer + height + glyph of Jalgard + Raelin = 12 defense dice. )

Real lava is opaque. Real ice is translucent. Real swamp water is translucent or opaque. Real water is translucent (or transparent).

Heroscape lava is opaque. Heroscape ice is translucent. Heroscape swamp water is opaque. Heroscape water should be translucent (or transparent).

p.s. I love my sparklies.

The first set I bought came with separate dice.

I appreciate the separate dice for a quick count of hits/defense instead of visually picking out the skulls or shields from combined dice. It's a very minor thing, but it is a point in the red/blue's favor.

Do you mean: "Once you've had sparkly, you'll never want to go forward" ? Remember the bland water came after sparkle water.

I also agree that the white dice are better than red and blue separate. Beside the fact that you just roll them and count skulls or shields instead of rolling red or blue, they are easier to carry around and the tone of the dice is also better. Ease my eyes :) .

Sparkly water looks better but it's not a big deal. Colored dice, on the other hand, were inefficient. If you wanted valkyrie powers with them, you had to draw a symbol on.

Re: Sparkly and Regular not mixing well

They mix just fine, you just have to know how to do it right. Make it random, avoid patterns. It works better in larger bodies of water or puddles, not so much for rivers.

All of my Flagbearers (the only figures with "Valkyrie Powers") came with Valkyrie dice! So there's been no need to draw symbol on the red & blues.

I tend to get lazy and instead of having to take out all the different valkyrie dice I just roll the white dice and count the plain side as the Valkyrie Symbol. Of course I wouldn't do that in a tourney but it's my...erm, house rule.

I prefer sparkly water. But I have 9 sets of plain, and one of sparkly, and would prefer consistency.

Secondly, I was disappointed to see that swamp water wasn't sparkly or translucent, but plain.

Dice-wise, white dice were better than separate attack/defence dice, but the Valyrie dice are the best option of all.

Ted

I love the seperate dice for attack and defense so much that any set of the white dice stay in the pack in the bottom of the box.

The sparkly water is cool it looks better then the boring plain water. I do not like mixing the 2 types. My friends and I are working on rules for deep water so that we who have both types in a steady supply have something to do with both types.

The Devil came and switched out sparkly water with opaque water, but he thought we wouldn't see through this! Now, only true 'scapers seek out the Tile of the Lord. The rest will burn for 8d20 in the tiles of Volcarra.

Well, now you can solve the whole I don't have sparkly water so I suck problem thanks to Kahrma! :)

Go to an autoparts store. Look for spray paint cans in the paint area. Make sure that the store carries the Duplicolor (http://www.duplicolor.com) brand. If they don't go to another store. If they do, look for the Duplicolor Metal Specks (http://www.duplicolor.com/products/metalspecks.html) - Ocean Blue.

AWESOME! This stuff is great. It dries pretty fast. It looks VERY nice. Also, its a great match with the real sparkly water. This stuff is a bit darker (and not transparent...) but it makes a great look for deep water with the original sparkly water as shallow water. Or if you use it by itself, people don't realize it isn't real sparkly water until they look very close.

THANKS KHARMA!!! :D :D :D

I think the sparkly water looks better. But I made a decision early on to intentionally buy the opaque simply because I didn't like the look of mixing the two. Some do, I just don't, it's a matter of personal taste.

Now having said that, there have been many times I've bid on large lots of sparkly water tiles on Ebay. For me it has to be all of one kind. Now that the swamp water is opaque I'm glad I stuck with the opaque water. But I still am tempted by the sparkly water lots on ebay.

I got rid of all my sparkly, traded it all for the new stuff. When I got my second MS that had the new water and I looked at them side by side the sparkly water did look better.
I did not like the fact you can see whats under sparkly water(and ice for that matter). Even worse is looking at sparkly water next to new water, so after my third MS and knowing the new water was here to stay I traded my sparkly for new water.
I have never looked back.

Re: Mixing Sparkly and Non-sparkly

Only 1 out of my 5 RotV sets came with sparkly water. So I use those tiles to represent "deep water". The rules being you can't move on it at all unless you have a water movement ability. (vipers, mircocorp) Before I got sparkly water, I tried this same rule with any water tile NOT touching a land tile was "deep water". Both ways worked out ok, but having the sparkly water makes it easier to tell what's "deep water" and what's not.

No one mentioned that sparkly water is sized better. The newer bland water buckles and pops up when you create huge oceans with it. I think they are a few micrometers smaller. The sparkly water was sized perfectly so when you create huge oceans of it, it stays flat.
