my gaming group enjoys thinking on our feet and creating new armies, plus we dont like the official way to draft.

1. Place 1 of each army card into a deck and shuffle
2. divide cards into seperate piles (depending on how many players)
3. place a hidden order marker on each pile
4. everyone rolls, high die picks a number
5. once all numbers are picked piles are handed out.
6. army point totals are determines (usually 400-600)
7. use reverse order of die roll to determine starting postions,
8. continue as normal.

We have found that this method allows for many unique armies to be formed. this also gives people the freedom to stray away from the normal ideals of a good army.

any comments are apperciated.

This sounds like a good change of pace way to play the game. I wouldn't do this all the time, but I might give it a whirl every now and then.

You might like the idea that Elstree and I used to do. Shuffle and deal, then pick from what you are dealt.

Ideally, you would have reprinted cards with the backs from the glyph cards on the unit cards so you couldn't see what was dealt. This could also be fun for picking, others wouldn't know what you had. We would often still do a draft process, since responding to what the other player has picked is part of the strategy of Heroscape.

Another option for dealing out the cards is to deal from the bottom of the deck.

we usually have one person who shuffles and places the round markers blindly, that person gets last choice. On one hand they get the "leftovers" but on the other the have a better idea of what each group is working with.

Its really grand when you know one person has squads that bond but no heros to bond themt to, not to mention when someone does get all the cards for a orc horde.
