Hello!

I just dropped by to let you know about the site I am building at heroscape.org. It will be a wiki and will focus on being a repository of all things Heroscape. I don't expect a lot of functionality overlap between this site and the Codex and I hope many of the long term residents of this and the last two sites will join in.

The site is still propigating, so you may not be able to reach it yet (there's only a placeholder there now anyway). I expect to have the wiki running within a week or so.

Sounds like a very worthwhile project that should be a great resource, and will compliment rather than repeat what happens here. Good luck, and keep us up to date as to when you launch the site.

The site is now ready for use!

www.heroscape.org (http://heroscape.org)

Please read the Site Policy (http://www.heroscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=HeroscapeWiki:Site_Policy) before doing any editing. I know it is draconian, but I hope it is understood why it must be that way. I don't want to receive any unhappy notices in the mail from Hasbro. Card scans are right out AFAIK (and until I hear otherwise from an offical source), but small images of your own figures would be appreciated.

I have added most of the info from the army cards, but that's about it. All other sections just have a placeholder up. I am adding special powers as I can. It is slow going because I am rewording everything as generically as possible for future official units and also custom units with the same powers. Besides the existing army/category scheme, I don't have any templates in place. That should change as I get an idea of what sort of content the community will add.

The skins are pretty generic solid color deals. If you already have a favorite Monobook mod, you can use that as normal. Otherwise, you get the five army color schemes to choose from. I hope to replace them with image based skins at some point. The other obviously missing graphics are in the works. I myself have no talent for graphics so I have to depend on others for them. The functionality is the important thing though (right?) so I figured I would declare this the grand opening even though the site isn't that pretty yet.

So, get over there and register, and then start editing whatever you feel comfortable with. See you there!

What exactly is a wiki, a torch for your back deck? :P Seriously though what is the purpose of a Wiki, what does that even mean?

So help me out here - will this be included in the Wikipedia site? There is already a Heroscape entry on Wikipedia.

Or is this a completely separate wiki? Will it be linked from Wikipedia?

good point HeH. perhaps more attention should be given to the wikipedia entry...

In short, it's a database anyone can edit and add to.

So help me out here - will this be included in the Wikipedia site? There is already a Heroscape entry on Wikipedia.

Or is this a completely separate wiki? Will it be linked from Wikipedia?

It is its own wiki. The wikipedia entry can certainly link over to it.

This information will not be included on the wikipedia site because there is little call or reason to have an entry on things such as "Tarn Viking Warriors" in a general encyclopedia. By having a wiki devoted to just Heroscape, all minutia that anyone can possibly think to add, can be.

Another difference is that I have not included a copyleft license on the site. I would like to have put the GNU Free Document License on, but it complicates things with regards to game rules (which are not copyrightable, but ought not to be listed as though they are under a copyleft) and fair use items.

I see that we have our first community addition by Orbital. Thanks! That's very cool. It's great to see the site already being expanded.

can I add myself ? :D

Do not submit content taken from the official Heroscape site such as chacter bios, strategies, or images. Do not submit scanned images of cards or other copyrighted game materials

That does not leave alot to be added, I can't add what the cards do?

"user talk" ? I'm adding my personailed bio of me, it will be long.

One thing...should the category for Valkyries actually be Generals?

I have no idea what I'm doing, I just added my info in both user talk and on my user page.

meh, on the edited page I can see the immage, but not on the finnished page :/
ok.. thats weird. Again, on the edit page, you can see the immage you put in, but on the finnished page its just a link @_@;
O.k. I've done Tae. Tae is mine, no one touch Tae.

Hey, UD, you forgot to mention the Minions' halfway-bonding ability that effects Tae.

Good stuff, tho...classic...I mean epic!

Game mechanics are fine. They cannot be copyrighted (see the Monopoly knock-offs). It's the fluff that's copyrighted. For instance, you can't take Taelord's bio and copy and paste it into the wiki. You can though discuss his powers, add FAQs about him, write strategies, etc.

I went with the offical terms used in the 2nd Edition Rules. The page for Valkyries can of course explain that they are the army generals, talk about why they are fighting, who opposes who, etc.

Why does the immage do that weird thing? On the preview it works (you can see it) but on the actual finnished page it becomes a link. I added the bonding mention.

It should be working now. It is turned off by default. I will leave it on as long it is not abused.

Um, that certainly is an interesting entry.

I fixed the image. You don't need to add image tags for external images. Just put in the URL.

I just made a quick entry for Drake. I hope I didn't use any copyrighted stuff, all of it just came from my brain. Except for his stats and stuff.

Everything you wrote was fine. It's a good entry. We will get a standard format eventually once we get more things put up, but yours is a great start. I just took out the extra whitespace at the bottom. As long as you aren't copy and pasting fluff in, or doing a word replacement you'll be fine for copyright.

To explain better, here's what is on heroscape.com for Drake:

Though he is incredibly agile and strong in hand-to-hand combat, Sergeant Alexander was injured and weaponless after being whisked away to Valhalla by Jandar.

That kind of thing shouldn't show up on the wiki. I can put it here because a snippet like that is clearly protected under fair use, but it wouldn't be right to post it in whole for every character. Nor could you do:

Though he is very dextrous and powerful in melee combat, Sergeant Alexander was hurt and weaponless after being taken to Valhalla by Jandar.

It's obviously taken from the original. You could though write your own background using the official site and comics for reference.

Stg. Alexander is originally from Earth. He was recruited by Jandar and given...In comic number 1, he was captured by...And that's why he is such a cool guy.

The talk page is for leaving a message to a particular user. You can set your talk page to watch status, and you will get an e-mail when someone edits it. It is of limited use in my opinion.

Drake (http://www.heroscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=Sgt._Drake_Alexander) is looking quite good. With a bit more work his page can be used as a template.

I am wondering if we shouldn't have a category for ranged units and one for melee units and one for Units with special attacks?? Alot of these Counters could use the categories. IE Counters for Drake should include units that have special attacks

Good idea. I added the categories. The units though will need the tags added. They should go directly after . should go after the ranged or melee tags. I will start adding tags if no one else does once the special powers are all added.

sweet! Question, how do we add the link to the body of the text? When I try to add it it just adds the link to the bottom.

IE
Ranged Units - Drake murders ranged units

I cant figure out how to make Ranged Units link to the category page

Ranged Units will do it. The first colon marks it as being a link to a category. The stuff after the pipe is what will show up.

I went and fixed the two links on Drake's page.

Thanks for your work aielman. We have a few pages now that look pretty good. Still lots of army card entries are waiting to be done. It is a good start though. I am working on it as I can. Pretty soon it will be a sharp looking place.
