My Thoughthammer perusings have alerted me to Dungeon Twister, a title I'd seen before but thought little of. Reading up on it on BoardGameGeek.com shows it to have a high rating. Anybody here have it and want to chime in? Since TH has it for under $20 I'm considering it.

Like this?
Mialee: Left Foot, Red!
Jozan: Do I get a bonus for that?
Tordek: Ach! I've only got 7 dexterity!
Lidda: Get off my face, dwarf!

Excellent game! I know G-Bob has a copy (I believe he actually bought a French language copy just to get it early - the pieces are not language dependent). If you are at all turned off by the die rolling chance of HeroScape, there is nothing - and I do mean nothing - left to chance in Dungeon Twister. Every play is based solely on the choices you make, there are no dice. Yet it plays like a dungeon crawl/chess hybrid.
I cannot recommend this game highly enough! I was just looking at Thought Hammer and Dungeon Twister yesterday as they have two of the expansions I don't have marked down an additional 2.50 due to dent/ding and am seriously considering picking them up. Of course whenever I go Thought Hammering I get stuck with the Want-Too-Much Syndrome. Yesterday was no exception:
• Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game (PreOrder) (32.47),
• Talisman 4 (PreOrder) (35.00),
• Legendary Dungeoneer: Wrath of the Serpent Goddess (12.97),
• Dungeoneer: Realm of the Ice Witch (12.97),
• Dungeoneer: Dragons of the Forsaken Desert (12.97),
• Dungeoneer Epic: Call of the Lich Lord (12.97),
• Dungeon Twister: Forces of Darkness (Ding & Dent) (17.99),
• Dungeon Twister 3-4 Player Expansion (Ding & Dent) (17.99),
• Dungeon Twister: Mercenaries (PreOrder) (16.24) ...
What do you do? Especially when you plan to buy all of them eventually!

Wrong game. That's Dungeons and Dragons: Twister.

I'm already cooking up my next order. Dungeon Twister and Dungeoneer will be in that.
I wonder if Talisman is worth it? I've got the full set plus expansions of the 2nd edition, but reading through the Boardgamegeek threads I was reminded of the tedium that set in during the midgame and the anticlimatic ending. Don't get me wrong, me and my friends played the CRAP out of this game, but that was 20 years ago and games have gotten so much... better...? I don't know. I might still get it just so I can play Talisman again without risking my "valuable" set.

Oh man, you aren't kidding, I was trying to put together an order that was $125 or just over, I added a few things that I know I wanted and was browsing around and adding other things that looked good, it was almost $400! I have to decide what to cut off and wait until later.

I've been eyeing Dungeon Twister as well. The name itself is a little offsetting, but reading the reviews on BGG, it's sounds like an excellent game. I may have to pick it up with Last Night on Earth!

I admit I enjoy the Talisman way too much to give an unbiased review. I am getting it simply because I already have everything else Talisman related (okay US release-wise, I got ***** slapped by Jon New for the that unabridged statement on the Black Industries Forum as he has all versions in every language! Jon New is the fanboy extreme when it comes to Talisman).
As for the mid-game slow down, I find this happens only when playing with newbies and or those without cajones to go for it and risk all for the win. The more competetive the group of players the less likely this will happen. I just consider those that whine about the on-and-on of Talisman to be Gamer Whimps!

Agreed. When I used to play this (almost every night) in college, any player who paused to breathe would invariably end up dead.
I appreciate your concerns ej, but I think the Talisman formula has been refined enough to keep it viable.

I wonder if Talisman is worth it?
If you don't have second edition, it is worth it. If you do have second edition, it's only worth it if you want new graphics and feel like you need to update your second edition set with pretty much the same thing. Word is that it is almost identical to second edition right down to all the adventure cards themselves. There are minor tweaks here and there which escape me at the moment, but I assure you it is nothing earth shattering. I was looking forward to this release until I found out it might as well be second edition all over again which I already have. :(

If you've only played/own and enjoyed Talisman third edition this new version is a must.
It is actually odd discussing Talisman in a thread about Dungeon Twister. There is 0% luck in Dungeon Twister and 100% luck in Talisman (technically, it is a little less as you do have 1 choice per turn, after rolling the die for movement you may choose the movement direction). Two more diametrically opposed games there are not!

Yep. Talisman is a gambling game. What your handed is completely random, but a good gambler knows how to stack the odds.

Ha! Maybe a better way to phrase that would be a good gambler knows how to play the odds.

I truly understand. As a kid playing Clue, I always was the first to get the answer as I watched and noted every action in the game. Although the sheets allowed for up to five games to be played per sheet, I used the entire sheet each game recording every action, taken by every player. I haven't played in years, but I do hope to break out Simpsons Clue at some point.

Have been playing Dungeon Twister for about a month now with just the base game. Next addon will be thePaladins & Dragons and maybe the 3D figures.
The game is alot of fun and every time you play the strategy gets more and more intense. The name Dungeon Twister really fits the game but it still is kind of an odd name that may hurt it more then help.
The game is easy enough that my 7 year old could learn the rules....but....it is very easy to beat him. (I do give him a break though). But if he played with another 7 year old they could easily play a competitive game. The strength in the game is the intense strategy despite the simplicity. You can drive yourself nuts stratagizing. I highly recommend the rules suggestion of 2 min limit per turn. And enforce the rule that once you twist a dungeon you cannot twist it back.

Heroic, is it a pain in the butt to rotate the dungeon sections during game play? That's the only aspect I'm dreading, yet I haven't read or discovered a negative comment about this part of playing DT.

I don't think rotating the rooms is a pain because it doesn't happen very often. You just slide the board out, rotate it, and put it back in. It also helps that the board is laid out in a 4x2 rectangle instead of a square.

Do not try to pick up the board and you will be fine. Of course, you may want to rotate it slowly rather than giving it a good spin!

Ahhhhh, my Dungeon Twister base set and first expansion arrived yesterday! This game looks incredibly fun!
Love the concept - reminds me a bit of a dungeon crawl or Heroscape meets The Cube (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cube_(film)).
The dragon is awesome with an attack of 6, but a movement of 0 how else is he supposed to move if the teleportation ring works - IIRC - once?
Other players can carry him most likely?
Heroic Monkey
September 19th, 2008, 05:17 PM
Nope, the Dragon doesn't move once he's placed on the board (although you can carry your own wounded characters). The dragon, in my opinion, is like an obstacle to your opponent. The dragon is a nuisance to run away from because the other player can rotate the dungeons and blast your characters with a fireball. I wonder if it would be a good idea to place the Dragon in one room (next to your side of the dungeon), and have the Illusionist place traps to block the room next to the dragon... :ponder:
The dragon is tricky to use. My favorite characters in the expansion are the pick pocket (I loved it when I was able to steal the Teleportation Ring from the other player's theif and then use it!), elf, weapon master, and paladin.

I checked out the Dungeon Twister website a while back and the site was so poorly designed that I literally couldn't figure out what kind of game it was. I didn't know if I was a computer game or a card game. I was so disappointed that I emailed the webmaster to complain that I still had no idea what Dungeon Twister was.
Just yesterday, months later, I got a response that said, 'Thanks for the feedback.' I just checked the website and voila, now I know what the game is!
Who knows? Maybe my little email did something.

Another thing, when I rotate one room, I MUST rotate its twin?
That was the interpretation I got from reading the rule book.
EDIT: just got home and found the answer: it's not mandatory to rotate the identical room, but it can be done for an additional AP.

I played a game of Dungeon Twister with my son this afternoon.
Whoah. WHOAH. I love it! It's said Space Hulk oozes with atmosphere - dang, DT is drenched in it!
I took the Cleric, Thief, Wall Walker, and Goblin for my team.
My son had the Wizard, Cleric, Mekanork, and Warrior for his team.
I zipped my Thief across the board, navigating traps and opening doors easily. She scored me 1 VP for her escape as well as wounding my son's Wizard before he could get the Fireball Wand and assassinate one of my crew.
But it was my son's warrior who tore my team apart!
He killed off my Wall Walker, Cleric and finally the Goblin.
The little Goblin was veritably trapped in the first 1/4 of the map.
He couldn't advance without running into the warrior.
So my son won with three kill VPs and 2 more for exiting with a treasure.
It's a near luckless game built on strategy, but I'm loving the fast play and not thinking the options too deeply. Great fun to play with my son and not take it too seriously.
What fun!

Okay, I was confused on my first double room rotating question. It was about the Mekanork I had a vague understanding.
Sooooo, one more time - Can a Mekanork rotate two rooms for 1 AP?
The Mekanork pays the same AP as other characters: Each 1/4 turn of a room costs 1 AP. The only difference with the Mekanork is that he can ignore the directional arrow on the rotation gear (so he can turn the room whatever way he wants).
EDIT: just got home and found the answer: it's not mandatory to rotate the identical room, but it can be done for an additional AP.
Actually, you can rotate the identical room by itself for 1 AP per 1/4 turn. You don't have to rotate both rooms if you don't want to. I apologize if you already knew that but I just wanted to make sure.
I'm glad you enjoyed the game! :)

Thanks Heroic.
Also it seems we played the first game incorrectly.
Apparently we were supposed to use all of our eight characters, four on the starting line and four placed within the labyrinth.

My son and I played another game this afternoon. Took a break and finished after dinner. We played the Paladins & Dragons expansion.
Man, that's some fun right there!
I was leading with 3 VPs as I had exited two figures and killed one of his.
But mid-game, his Paladin gathered up the fire shield and Dragonslayer and went after my dragon! 2 VPs.
I managed to get my Elf Scout out of the maze for an additional VP, but I couldn't secure the fifth and final point! My own paladin died to my son's devastating Golem. That steam mech was a key player in causing mayhem on one side and central rooms of the dungeon.
It's really a great game!

As you play the game more and more you encounter new strategies which are fun to play. I have all the other expansions to date (except for 1) and it adds a whole lot of new elements. The game never gets old.

I've been interested in this game for awhile. I actually looked through the French edition of this game a while ago, but didn't have enough time to play it or translate the rules to get a feel for game play. After reading everyone's posts, I decided to finally order the base game as it sounds great.

My boy's 8 and does really good with the game. The time length is a bit of a stretch for him. We took a break yesterday and it helped alleviate the issue.

My son and I love this game. It's a fairly quick game (about an hour) with high replayability, especially when you get an expansion. Like many of the great games, the rules and gameplay are fairly simple at first, but there are so many different strategies.
We have the 3/4 player expansion, as well as Paladins and Dragons. I also bought the other two expansions, but right now they're hidden in the basement for his birthday and for Christmas, so I can't tell you how they play. Paladins and Dragons is a must though. If you're ordering this game, just order the Paladins expansion as well.
The key with the dragon is for one of the characters to bring him the teleportation ring. Then he is a force to be reckoned with.

Ah, nice. My son and I both placed our dragons in the same middle room. We were amazed when it came time to reveal that section of the labyrinth! I didn't realize it, but when I had to place his tokens, I put his dragon adjacent to a Fountain of Youth!
I must be getting old - I don't readily see all the details of the intricate dungeon artwork!

Cheddar it's really a very cool game. I'm always looking for a decent gladiatorial game.
I wasn't expecting Dungeon Twister to be such a game!
But reading the backstory for the game - there's a 3,000-years old Arch Mage who's bored with everything and has constructed lots of underground battle dungeons. He pits contestants against each as he watches from afar.
Reminds me of the devious film, The Cube, mixed with gladiators and dungeon crawls.
There are pit traps that'll grind a player up into hamburger, gaping chasms, misty corridors, portcullises that can be opened and closed, and of course the Rotation Gears that spin the rooms! 8)
Definitely pick this up when you get the funds - and yes, get the Paladins and Dragons expansion. It's real sweet to swivel a room about trying to line LOS for your 0-movement dragon to blast with its Fire Breath!
Don't worry it will still be there. and it is a GREAT 2 player game.
DT is a nice change of pace from HeroScape too - there's terrain involved, but not a lot of setup to get a game going. Each board can be different too.
Really a very awesome game.

Hahn, I received Mercenaries, Forces of Darkess, and 3/4 players expansions yesterday. Wow. I may have to agree with you.
The Mercenaries and Darkness expansions are really cool, but they definitely 'up' the level of rules details and playable bits (bat token, zombies tokens, enlightened darkness tile pieces!).
This game is still uber-cool, but it makes me appreciate the simplicity of HS even more so!

My son and I played a game of the Mercenaries expansions.
I was so close to winning! 3 VPs with a fourth on my next turn - My assassin was two squares away from exiting the other side!
But my son, tied with me for 3 VPs, decided to head his Crossbowman towards the exit on my side!
I went to engaged him with my Dwarf carrying a forged, two-handed sword, but I did not have enough Action Points to use it! :frustrated:
As well, my son had a +3 Combat Card which I didn't think he possessed! Argh - wounded Dwarf!
So, on his turn, he plays 5 Actions - kills Dwarf for 4 VPs and then exits the maze for the fifth and final VP!
He's really good!!!! Great game. This particular expansion gets a bit complicated with armories, weapons, and the Samurai special ability, but I had my 8-years old son to help keep me sorted!

I had Guerillinator over last night and we played Dungeon Twister the base set. It was a great game! I had the several opportunities to rotate the twin room of the room my character was standing in.
Playing this game several times now, I see why such a tactic is needed - especially when a team can get bogged down with dead-ends and clogged pathways.
I managed to get my Goblin out for 2 VPs. 8)
But the final victory was not mine. We were neck and neck for VPs. I was making a beeline with my Wall Walker w/a treasure towards the exit. Guerillinator's Warrior had an easy access to get out and took it.
final score: 5-4.
I can't get enough of this game. I'd love to find a tournament or play group to play and observe DT more often.

Yes, and this is quite far from what I was expecting when I first saw the game. A dungeon crawl game where you can bring chaos on the table by rotating rooms suggested me the idea of a very light, somewhat crazy game.
Anyway, after a quick demo at a con, I've instantly purchased main game and Paladins & Dragons expansion. ^^
It seems that played with 4 players the game loses tactics in favor of craziness, coming near to the unpredictable gameplay typical of games such as RoboRally.

The Base Set and the Collector Box are almost the same: the core game. Obviously the Collector Box includes various extra. the most notable are the resin miniatures (also sold separately), and an additional character, the Amazon.
Then there are various espansions that add new characters, rooms, items, and usually some new rules. Some are not available in English yet.
They include Créatures Sylvestres, Fire and Water, Forces of Darkness, Mercenaries, Paladins & Dragons, Terres de Glace.
Then there's the 3-4 players expansion that (obviously) allows games with three or four players (it includes the rules, new rooms, the characters and items from base set in two new colors: red and green). There's also À feu et à sang that includes characters and items from Paladins & Dragons and Fire & Water in these colors, so you can play 3 or 4 players games with these characters, too.

i wonder me about this from bbg
Following the postcard you should get these 7 promo items:
- Amazon cardboard piece (included in the Collectors Box)
- One exclusive room pair
The rest only if you order the abo:
- Amazon miniature for ordering the abo
- Four surprises, one with each expansion
And that's what people have got until now:
- Amazon cardboard piece
- One not so exclusive room pair P2
- Amazon miniature (was shipped with the first expansion, but not everyone got one, so many had to complain at Pro Ludo)
- Two surprises: Waldelf and Zephir, der Arglistige* (shipped after a long delay)
So two surprises are unknown (or only one if Pro Ludo is counting the Amazon miniature as a surprise) and probably won't be produced ever.
* For registering at the German forum there is another promo. Before the print run there was a voting and Zephir, der Arglistige won. But Pro Ludo made another mistake and is shipping Zephir as a Collectors Box surprise and Der Unbarmherzige as forum promo.
Promo details in French (Zephyr le fourbe, L'elfe des bois, L'impitoyable): http://www.dungeontwister.net/dossiers/cat.php?idcat=48

Zephyr the Cheating one (4/2) The cheating one can attack in diagonal. It can also take part in a combat grouped in diagonal, attack or defense, with the choice of the player who controls it. These four characters will be available in the shape of Stand-up and Pawn with their characteristics. The three characters of finalists will be on white zone, while Zéphyr the Cheating one will be him declined out of orange and blue. Here is for the presentation of the first goodies 2007. Very soon we will present the others to you goodies with in particular an alternate team for L' Water & fire and a pair of rooms in bond with the next extension of Twister Dungeon: Woodland creatures!
Also, the Zephyr looks somewhat similar to the Bucheron (http://boardgamegeek.com/image/230975?size=original) (both have green goggles), so I'm thinking that it was just a preview of one of the characters from the forest expansion. The translation is confusing so that's just a guess.

Thanks Heroic! I was able to translate something about diagonal by just reading the French text.
Also thanks for translating the description in Babelfish!

Funny!
The Purple Dragon's power is sweet! Destorys all portcullis in the room, correct?
That's a wicked cool ability for an exclusive.
Of course that's that whole singing prerequisite....

After seeing this BGGer's Dungeon Twister holder (http://images.boardgamegeek.com/images/pic271126_lg.jpg), I decided to make my own.
Instead of black foamcore on black, I chose black on gold.
Also added more reservoirs for holding action points, victory points, portcullis markers. spent cards and extra holders (covered up).
Still need to make the cobblestone texture and color it with colored pencil, but here it is currently:

I am not sure what Del Eep used to create his board, but it appears the top layer foam board had a cobblestone texture to begin with.
Looking at the 3 images he uploaded to BGG, I would have started with a full solid sheet of mat board. A second mat board with areas cut out to get just below the cards, chits and boards that fit in the next foam board layer (basically cutting out divets in this layer that the cards, chits and boards cannot drop through, but your finger can). On top of the second matboard put strategically placed image text via spray glue, the paper being larger than the openings in the foam board to follow. The final layer being the cobblestone foam board with the areas cut out for cards, chits and boards.
HeH: How big is your board?
EDIT: The reason I ask I am thinking about creating a poster size image to have mounted on foamcore to be cut out for the card, chit and board areas. Current board size shown 3' x 4' scaled down ...

Thanks royaldoy.
My version does not fold in half, but Del Eep's original version does fold for portability and storage. It's better to have a folding board or two-section construction, but for now, I'm keeping mine at full length, 20" x30".
Creating the board proved incredibly simple.
Measuring and drawing the reservoirs was easy enough. I tried cutting with newly purchased, small X-acto knife, but it was too small.
I resorted to a normal box-cutter style knife and that worked swell!
Whatever you use for cutting, make sure you have plenty of blades on hand as they dull extremely fast.
I am not sure what Del Eep used to create his board, but it appears the top layer foam board had a cobblestone texture to begin with.
Mal, Del Eep uploaded a PDF file detailing in French the mesaurements and step-by-step construction. See the file to understand how he produced the texture!

20" x30"
Those cobblestone sheets are sweet!
I really like the Mountain Rock version.
Applying those sheets would be a heckuvalot easier route than what I've got planned - imprinting every stone pebble and coloring by hand!
Again, see Del Eep's file to get an idea what he did.
You and I have to play this game someday.
I"m totally loving it.

The diagrams in centimeters?
I skipped that info and did my own measurements in inches!
Very convenient platform for putting the game on hold.
My son and I were playing before dinner. Dinner was ready and we were halfway complete in our battle. So I simply lifted the foamcore and stored it with the game in progress in safe place.
As for the game itself, I find myself navigating about the DT site or BGG for rules clarification - there's a lot of rules and situations to interpret correctly!

It's a fantastic strategy game.
I'd really like to find a local opponent to play against once or twice a week. I've only really explored the base game and the Paladins & Dragons and Mercenaries expansions and I still have many, many hours of mileage to get from those before I move onto Forces of Darkness or the soon-to-be-released Fire & Water expansion.
I've seen that gray plateau too. It's the same guy who uploads most of the YouTube DT videos.
The three-dimensional walls would be fun to try! A bit cumbersome to store and transport, but I'm sure it makes visualizing the game so much easier.
As you can see in the videos, the dungeon squares are highly detailed and therefore busy in content. It takes a while to get used to seeing everything.

Here are Hist Arts Instructions for making the Dungeon Twister board. Looks like you can't use the provided boards and you need to make copies that are larger so the walls will fit. And they do glue them to the larger board.

Looks like a pretty involved project but should be worth it. The key is making good copies. The room boards are so pretty that a bad copy would take away from the game.

Well thats just my point...the walls used in those pics fit right on the game tiles. Since I would own the game I would make high quality color scans of each board. Print them on thick stock and laminate them on wooden boards. Then cast the walls and affix them on top.
Would keep and play with the originals too since sometimes we would just want to play a quick pick-up game or to be able to take it on the road.

Ok I have been playing around with this idea in my head on how to create the 3D boards yet make them easy to twist and I think I have it.
My plan is to create the "Plateu" but raise it up off the table 8 inches and recess the tile area to be about an inch deep.
There will be a slightly larger than 3/4" hole drilled in the center of each tile section. (will get back to this in a minute)
I will then recreate the layout of each tile in 3D using polystyrene foam for the floor and foamcore for the walls. Still not sure if I am going to make walls tongue and groove into the floors or make them permanent.
Once the tiles are recreated in 3D they will be attached to a wooded base...the base will have a 3/4 inch hole drilled 1/2 way through on the underside in the center.
A 3/4 in dowel will be used in the wooden base and it will then be slipped through the hole in the plateu.
Now when it comes time to twist the room you lift the dowel up from underneath, raising the tile above the wall height. Twist it and then let it back down.
You would still need the regular tiles to determine while tile is going where at the beginning.
Thoughts?

Ona, Mal wanted to play a game of Dungeon Twister on NHSD.
Mostly he wanted to see how the board was laid out and how he would construct his own plateau, but with the normal, 2D board sections.
He too had an idea of a raised platform and from underneath a lever of some type would lift and rotate the room. I couldn't picture it!
I like the dowel idea, but personally, it's not a bother to physically rotate any given room in the normal manner. Would love to see what you create.
You would still need the regular tiles to determine while tile is going where at the beginning.
Thoughts?
Right, just keep the 2D layout off to the side. Place the tokens face-down and when it's time to reveal, convert over to the 3D board.

While on vacation, we've been playing the heck out of Dungeon Twister!
Strangely enough, my son and I have played the latest, Fire & Water only once.
We did play it first, but got real stoked to try other expansions. :excited:
We'll get back to F&W eventually.
From there we went on to Forces of Darkness. This is a fun expansion!
I thought it would be too much 'record keeping' with all the extra tokens and dungeon tiles you can add in a room in order to lighten the darkness. But the added complexity was not that bad !
Here is massive cluster of combat. I'm the yellow team.
My Angel of Light, carrying the two-handed sword, had initiated combat with my son's Mummy. As well, my Mummy has joined the battle. But that's not all. My son's Necromancer has engaged the Angel and next to him is my Ghoul! I paid an extra Action Point to utilize the two-handed sword, so my combat total before adding a combat card was a hefty9
In the picture, you can also see the green tiles that have been added on top of the darkness spaces in the rooms. The Angel of Light, Ring of Light and Torches enable a player to navigate an otherwise nearly impassable type of terrain.

From there we tried playing the basic set of DT, but my son wanted to use the Green and red sets included in the 3/4 Players expansion. Here we are in the middle of the game. The plateau is so handy because if there's an interruption of game, I simply pick up the whole platform and store it away until we can return to the battle later.

Final 5-points victory was for the green team - me!
2 victory points for the Goblin exiting safely
1 VP for a fireball-annihilated Troll
1 VP for assassinating Red player's Warrior
1 VP for my thief who escaped safely and carried a wounded Cleric with her

Once the basic rules for this game are in place, the play time is drastically reduced. DT can move along rapidly if a player doesn't think too too deep about the insane amount of avenues of strategies!
And get this - my wife even played a 3-player game with my son and I!
She even wants to take me on 1v1!

Kudos on getting the wife involved, H_E_H.
How much reduction comes with repeated play, as far as game time goes? I've played the Basic game probably 3 or 4 times, over a span a several months, and it seems to have taken about an hour or more (if I recall correctly) each time. I was just curious.
Oh, and thanks for reviving my interest in this game, and the expansions! :)

Well setup and learning the new rules is still an involved process, but we can finish a basic set game around 45 minutes.

I read on BGG that there is a 3/4 player expansion for all the expansions in French and should be translated to English sometime in the future. That alone makes me want to invest in the expansions. I don't mind 2-player games but want the option of more players especially with a nice looking and great themed game such as DT.

We got a chance to play more Fire & Water!
There are some fun characters to use in this expansion.
Personal favorites are the Acrobat as he can jump two spaces in one leap. It doesn't sound like much, but when I needed him to backtrack in order to get two other allies further along in the maze, he was able get to the rotation gear by hoping over lava spaces and pit traps. He reached the rotation gear and rotated its twin counterpart, sacrificing himself so the others could escape the death maze.
The Prophet allows a player to peek at a face down, unrevealed room and tokens. Utilizing the Prophet also allows you to orientate the room in the direction you want when and if (your opponent's Prophet may do his own orientating before you can reveal the room!) you get to reveal its layout. Super cool.
The Courtesan is an odd character. She's so beautiful and charming that no characters can attack her. I'm not strong on strategies to use her, but she appears to be a movable, score-able obstacle.
The Magophage cancels magic and magical items that are adjacent to him.
The Telekineticist is able to move an object in the same room as her up to 5 spaces!
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/DUngeon%20Twister/DSCF3849.jpg
Here's one of the F&W games we played. The expansion includes two, exclusive rooms (the white-labeled P2 in the foreground is one of the rooms).
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/DUngeon%20Twister/DSCF3778.jpg
My son's Barbarian attempts to block my Courtesan from escaping the maze and scoring a victory point. He can't attack her, so he's whupped an on bended knee.
I'm not too crazy that my son sees these scantly-clad females during the game.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h249/jonan_jello/DUngeon%20Twister/DSCF3851.jpg
The Courtesan does find an alternate route to escape. 5 victory points and ultimate victory for Yellow team!

Once I get the hang of the game i would love to play against you online HEH.
I have the basic set and 4 of the 5 expansions sitting in a box in my closet waiting for Xmas to open....this is torture.
On a side note I have been working out some preplanning for the 3D board and have a question....
For the 3-4 player expansion does the board become a cross in appearance? I want to make the plateau to accommodate a normal game and a multiplayer.

I know there are plans for a PC version and an XBox game!

Nice! When you first play the game, it'll seem overwhelming for sure. You can't possibly visualize all the possibilities or sometimes the orientation of a room once it's move. I thought I was good with visual things, but I still screw up the alignment of what I thought would be a sure answer to a character trapped in a box or an available avenue to attack another figure! :frustrated:
I've been lurking on some DT forums and the official French site.
they've held many tournaments and the competition looks intense.
There are even brain-problems like the chess setups in the newspapers.
People compare DT to chess and I suppose that's true. But the game oozes with theme and coolness, that the enjoyment for me is revealing rooms and trying to traverse the board. I do like how the game is compatible with 'reaction' playing. But then again, my main opponent has been my young son. I'd like to play against adults more often to see some depth of strategy.
On a side note I have been working out some preplanning for the 3D board and have a question....

The four player mode is indeed a cross. Three player is a 'T' and there are several scenarios that range from a square-donut shape, stairs, and even two boxes with a sliding 'elevator' room between them!
Good luck creating something for those! ;)

Thanks. Apparently both expansions are intense in strategies and combinations and not recommended for beginners - which is in the category I would identify myself as a player.
But I'm not going to stress too much in playing this game really serious. Unless I find a regular opponent like I have with Heroscape, DT will be a high-strategy game I'll play with my son and strictly for fun. I've got to handicap myself as the last several games have found me winning too often.
So, I'll probably play 6 characters to his 8 and drop my +5 and or +6 combat card. I've already told my son this and he dosn't want me to go easy on him! Imagine that!
Hmmmmm Ta -Tas....(Homer Simpson drool....)
As I'm sure you're aware, there are other adult-oriented images to the game, but this is the first explicit exampled of nakedness in the releases. Though one of the convention exclusives did feature a four-tit, female version of the Troll.

Mal, Regarding the printout size - if you had used my scan of the characters posted on BGG, then that is the original scan size I made.

I didn't even notice that was your scan, I just grabbed the image and downloaded it. So, basically, whatever dpi you scanned them at, print it at the same dpi and it should work out fine*. Printing at 100% would garner you full page Araknis images ... not exactly helpful unless you are making posters!
Oddly quick BGG upload, the two images are already available on the Geek ...

* I did a quick check comparing the image to my own DT standups, apparently they are set for 400 dpi.

If there are subpar or small images, I'll always try to upload a larger, better scan to BGG of games I own. So, there were room tiles of Expansion 8 already available, but I uploaded the largest possible size I could of my own unpunched sheets. Besides the two, unpunched character sheets, I had to reduce the images of both expansions a few times in order to get them accepted! I kept getting an error message about my username or password. But the room tile images are still of a good size for all who are interested.
So, basically, whatever dpi you scanned them at, print it at the same dpi and it should work out fine*.

Responded to the secondary post ...
Right, it's perfectly reasonable to hide a bare breast from the young one's eyes while he is slaughtering his opponent's characters.
Let's see, imaginary violence on the same level of Chess pieces vs. the representation of bare female breasts. Personally, I have absolutely no problem with the original art (I do not have children - they might want to play with my toys), but responsible adults who game with their children might.
What is it with people attacking attempts at good parenting today?
Are people really that brain damaged; or, is it the fact that they and their children have smoked one bowl too many together?

Quick question (and I feel really stupid for asking this, but...), do you actually start the game with all 8 characters in play on the board? As in 4 on your starting line and 4 in the labyrinth?
I've played this game 4 or 5 times now and I have reread the rules numerous times, but it occured to me tonight as I was rereading them yet again (in conjunction with the expansion set (Fire & Water) I just received :D), that perhaps I've been playing this wrong all along?
I had always assumed that by the placing of 4 of your 8 characters on the starting line, you were picking your 4 for the game, and the rest went away. In rereading the part about placing the remaining tokens at the start of the game, the only way each room is maximized with the allotted amount of tokens per room is if the remaining 4 characters are in the labyrinth as well. Don't know how I've missed that lo these many times, but is that the case?
If so, man, I can't wait to play this the right way. I mean, it's fun the way I've played it so far, but with all 8 characters?! Holy moly!!
So please, as embarassing as it is, tell me I've been playing this wrong.

You do start the game with 4 on the line and 4 in the dungeon for a total of 8 characters to play with. The four in the dungeon can not be played until the rooms they are in are revealed.

Here are some pics of the resin figurines that I got for the base set and the Paladins expansion. Sure makes the game come alive! As you can see I still need to paint them but at least they come with a white and blue set for each so you can play without painting them. I think my favorite is the wall walker. This is half of my figures. I have a white basic set and a blue paladin set also.
Note: I still need to glue on the arms for Golem and the sword for the Paladin. That is all the gluing required.

Flyers can pass through Falling Rock spaces. Figures cannot stop on those spaces unless they have a shield. The shield can be left on the space in order to let other figures pass that space.
There are other details to those spaces, so definitely investigate the rulebook.

Yeah, All 8 characters are played.
We played our first game incorrectly in that exact manner!
Also, after several games, I realized we were revealing rooms incorrectly. The person who reveals the room gets to place his figures, his opponent's figures, and the opponent's objects (objects meaning wand, rope, potion, rings, etc).
BUT he does not get to place his own objects! The opponent gets to place those!
I only realized this error while watching a french guy instruct during a game of DT on YouTube. I love those instructional game videos on YouTube. Very helpful.

(l-r: Base set, Paladins & Dragons, 3/4 Player, Fire & Water, Forces of Darkness, Mercenaries, Forest expansions, Ice Age.

Bottom tray. In the bottom right compartment are the replaceable rotation gear tokens. These are for the Ring of Chaos object. A player can change any two Rotations gears to a new pair (yes, this can leave rooms without a twin rotation gear)

I prefer Dungeon Twister to Heroscape because I love the fact that the luck is almost non-existent.
The Ice Age expansion is out?? Weird, it's not even on the official website. But I have never seen the Dragon de Glace you have in your picture. Hmmm...

Sirius, the Ice Age expansion and the forest creatures (8 & 7) are not released in English. I bought my copies vie eBay and have rough translations of the rules and abilities.
I do like the non-luck aspect, but Heroscape is still my #1 game.

Excellent!
Paladins and Dragons is a solid expansion. Doesn't veer too much from the base set, but adding some great variety. The paladin is rocking with his double item carrying ability. THe Elf Scout is insanely fast! and it's hoot smashing through walls with the Golem.
Have fun and happy birthday, Rym!

I buy the games in French, as I am from Québec and my first language is French... so if you want any translations... :D
I have had the forest expansion for a long time now, actually I own them all, even the "À Feu et à Sang" one (second 3-4 player expansion), which you should get if you have friends to play with, if not, you can buy it if you want the new rooms.
But yeah, apparently I don't have the latest one, I didn't even know it was out. On the official website, I can't find that expansion, even on the French page... that's why I'm surprised.

Yes, I'll take you up on that offer of translating! Thanks man.
I recall reading expansion 8 was only released in France.
The slowness of US site updates (as well as the German site) lead me to think a U.S. release of 7 or 8 was unlikely or a looooong ways off.
Also, to the chagrin of many fans, there's been discussion the game will be restated/rereleased as a new edition!
Regarding À Feu et à Sang - do you know a way I can purchase it at an affordable price? I do want it as I understand the rules of Paladins & Dragons and Fire & Water and of course the new rooms are a big draw. Apparently it will be released in English? I could've purchased it with expansions 7 & 8, but was on the fence due to that news and I prefer the game as 1V1.

2 puff dragons and one minotauer.
that had i bought on my own because i thoug the other stuff will come or is easy to get.
but the real proms for buying the german edition have i never get from the publisher maybe because the game ist dead for the german publisher.
NEVER get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ollowing the postcard you should get these 7 promo items:

HEH,
First, thanks for helping me spend my money since I just purchased the 3 non-English expansions. You can get the expansion you are looking for from the same place: http://www.levalet.com/ . It's a Canadian game store and I've ordered hard to get games in the US from them before. Their prices are in Canadian dollars but they make a conversion during checkout into approximate US dollars and they have a flat rate of $10 shipping to the US.
Sirius,
I second HEH's request for help in translating the non-English expansions into English. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I was waiting to purchase these once they were translated (if ever) but the news about a new edition pushed me to purchase them before any art work or style changed which usually occurs with a new edition.

Wow, that's funny.
Le Valet d'Coeur is where I go in Montréal to buy the Dungeon Twister games. And since I came back from Japan after a year this summer, I had sorta forgotten about it too! And now I find out you guys order from this shop! Haha! Can't believe it! And I just found out on their website Terres de Glace! Now I really want to get it and play it! I LOVE ice-themed stuff! I'll have to go downtown soon.
I always wished they held Heroscape or Dungeon Twister games there, but sadly, it's mostly Dungeons & Dragons and Magic games they have. And now they have WoW miniatures games... (Speaking of which I started looking into it and apparently it's pretty good, despite the shady rules - problem is blind-buy booster packs.)
I don't know of any conventions or board game clubs anywhere close to Montréal, and going to the States for a tournament is a bit of a long drive. :P
Anyways, they are RE-releasing the game? What does that imply usually? New rules or something? What's the point?
Hmmm, maybe Le Valet d'Coeur will have the Aquilla and Ticalla expansions, which are nowhere to be found in any Wal-Mart or Toys R Us here... Even in the specialized board game store "La Tour de Jeux", I can't find those expansions. And on eBay neither.
So HEH, your best bet is Le Valet d'Coeur for Dungeon Twister, cause even I can't find them around here. :(

It's the same thing wherever I look. People aren't readily playing the game. The folks I have shown or played DT with finish the game mentally exhausted. Others have told me they suffer analysis-paralysis.
It's a shame and I want to play more often and get deeper in the strategies. So far, I'm not turned off by the deep strategy of the game. But then again, I've mostly played against my young son.
Anyways, they are RE-releasing the game? What does that imply usually? New rules or something? What's the point?

Well, my wife and I just finished our first game of DT, and it was a blast. Very challenging and engaging. The good news is, my wife felt the same way. This means I'll get to play on a semi-regular basis. :D Now if we can get comfortable enough with the rules. I think we did everything right. I even went on BGG and read some Rules threads, just to make sure. We did add a little to play time with rulebook checking, but we should be able to eliminate that with familiarity.

I've had a chance to play Dungeon Twister three times in the past week and against opponents with more experience than me. I don't mind losing so badly, just so long as I can see how to really play DT.
A recent battle in the Paladins & Dragons version saw these tragedies against my team:
Red Dragon teleporting and then blasting my Paladin and Golem in two actions.
My Pickpocket taken under the influence by the Illusionist and her Charm Scroll was made to walk under the falling rocks trap.
My Weapons Master defeated by her opposing counterpart.
And my opponent's Elf standing on a space in the Pentagram ensured the final 5th victory point
I managed to score 1 point with my Elf escaping, avoiding a complete shut out.
Again, it's great to finally play opponents who can show me how to really utilized the characters and items in DT.
Here is some excellent information posted by GameThyme on his gaming blog, http://gamethyme.blogspot.com/ :
Dungeon Twister 2: Prison
So I have some juicy tidbits today - Chris gave me a bit of information on Dungeon Twister 2: Prison. And, more importantly, permission to share that information.
So let's start with confirming the information that is already public:
1) The game will include miniatures rather than cardboard standups.
2) The game will include solitaire play in addition to the two-player mode.
3) There will be three "repeat" characters as well as five all-new characters.
4) The game will be backwards-compatible with existing products.
5) One goal is simultaneous releases in English, French, and German.
6) The rules are not changing - they are being clarified and will be re-worded.
7) New publisher: Ludically. This will be their first product. Asmodee will continue distribution.
So what new information do I have?
1) The terrain on the new board will be that from the existing Base Set + 1 new terrain type. The current name is "loopholes," but that is subject to change.
2) The game will include more than eighty cards, due to solo play and how it works. In fact, the company doing the video game (Hydravision) is basing the AI (in part) on the game's solo opponent.
3) On the subject of cards, they will have new art and will be standard size rather than the smaller size they currently are.
4) Solo play includes six levels of difficulty and a special "Auto-revealing" mode that can be combined with any of them. It also adds a random mode of play. There will be scenarios on the web for it, and if there is room in the rulebook, some will be included there.
5) New characters include the Colossus and the "Human-Snake." The Human-Snake can move through the loopholes I mentioned earlier.
6) Returning characters are the Cleric, the Mechanork, and the Wizard.
7) As mentioned, the rules will be clarified. There will also be some introductory scenarios to help teach new players how to play.
8) Future Plans: An expansion every three to four months, sales permitting. Each expansion will be two characters (four miniatures) and one or two pairs of rooms. Sales permitting, of course.
9) Target release date: September of 2009. He didn't say anything about it, but I hope to have (or have seen) a copy by GenCon.
What about the sets that aren't out in English, yet?
Chris had some info, but I can't share it yet. I will say that stock in France is down to zero, so if you want it, order it now from someone who has it in stock. Geoman uploaded some excellent translations of these sets on BoardGameGeek, and I'm willing to help with questions if you have them. The future of these sets in English depends on the sales of the new base set.
The same goes for the "Ultimate 3/4" set.
I'm not saying "give up hope of seeing these items, characters, and rooms in English," so don't interpret it that way. :)

If I converted it correctly, it's about $60!
Here's hoping the pre-order will be cheaper.
For our convenience, Eric Franklin translated the info from the email we received from the DT Yahoogroup.
For those of you who don't speak French, here is a rough translation:
Hello,
Here's coverage of the next edition of Dungeon Twister, named for the moment: Dungeon Twister - Prison.
It is both a new set of basic and an expansion.
Indeed, the 2nd Edition of DT remains 100% compatible with all boxes already released.
Here's the composition of Dungeon Twister - Prison:
85% new material for the players already have all the existing DT
The transition to the 3rd dimension: Each character will be represented by a figure in 28mm scale, finely carved and in line with the overall concept of each character. The artists have provided amazing work on this point.
The Colossus (who is on the cover), for example, is approaching 6 cm (2.36 inches) high!
Solo play is integrated with 6 levels of increasing difficulty, and optional for all players. The solo play will have a book of rules which will be dedicated specifically to solo play.
It is a game both unique and original. Each party is totally different. It will be possible to create or propose scenarios in the future, dedicated to solitaire play.
A tutorial in 5 scenarios is included in order to teach DT very gently. The first scenario requires 5 minutes of explanation of rules and 15 minutes of play (4 rooms, 2 characters on each side). The scenario is the 5EM game mode practiced since the release of DT in 2004.
This tutorial system is designed to introduce even the youngest or least familiar with strategy games.
The box will include:
8 new rooms
16 figures (8 characters on each side with 5 new characters)
88 Magic-sized cards (Actions, combat, jump, and many maps for the solo).
All the necessary pieces (and replacement pawns if you lose or have lost pieces of characters or objects in the past)
A rule book and tutorial (with specific areas dedicated specifically to the old sea wolves DT, dealing with interactions with the previous extensions).
A rule book for the solo play
Screens
The ruler
And thermo-forming super well studied for any property, to protect and store your models for those that have painted J. And store most of your old and / or future expansion.
In short, we try to do our best to provide a more accessible complete set for newcomers, as well as providing a maximum of new and useful things for the old fans who already own everything.
The release of DT-Prison in stores is scheduled for early October in France and Europe. 1 month later in the United States and around the world.
Distribution is ensured by Asmodée.
The game is published by Ludically.
To date, the price is not set, but we believe we can offer the game to a retail price in Europe of approximately 45 euros.
The release of DT-Prison should correspond to the release of the DT video game by Hydravision. We strive for that, and Hydravision is advancing on the project in parallel with us.
For those of you who are nostalgic for the original base game, the game video will be initially based entirely on the Dungeon Twister-Original, but we have already spent all the effort necessary to adapt elements in both directions (from the video game to the board game and vice versa).
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
I provide you with regular images and news about DT-Prison by its output (drawings of characters, figures, rooms, etc ...).
Until then, the pleasure from you in return, and which would "cover the enjoi:)! "
Good day.
Ludicalement,
Chris Boelinger

Here's some pics of my custom DT game frame (I hope the image upload). Made with oak and applied green felt to the bottom. It took about 6 hours in all to complete + wood glue time.
It's usually a sign of a good game when you are willing to build things like this.

RoyalDoy, I am so embarrassed I even shared my foamcore version here! Your version looks AMAZING. Very nice work!
Is it difficult to remove the tokens from the circular holes?
Be sure to share the images on BGG.com too. You will inspire many Twister fans there.
From the pictures, it appears you have Fire & Water, Forces of Darkness, and Mercenaries, and.... the Minotaur too! Sweeeet.
Speaking of my own customization, over the weekend I had some free time and finished texturing and coloring my DT game frame. It's on YouTube, but I can't link to it from my present location.
It's usually a sign of a good game when you are willing to build things like this. :lol:Indeed! Again, brilliant effort, Royaldoy.
Trivial, but fun to see - I finally received my copy of Expansion 6 - Fire and Blood. Here's my collection from the side:

It was your Foam Core frame that gave me the idea in the first place. Much Kudo's to you!! I've had mine built for months, but was to lazy to post the pics. I uploaded them to BGG before I posted here.
The tokens come out easy enough and aren't much of a problem.
I have all the english expansions as well as the Minotaur, & Purple Dragon. I don't have any of the foreign expansions yet...
Post your link later so I can check it out.

Great looking frame, royaldoy!! Nice work.
HEH, the game boxes look great stacked together. I also display them in a similar fashion on the gameshelf!

I set mine up like that as well, but mine don't have the pretty bookend with the "6,7 & 8".

royaldoy, out of curiosity, how heavy is that frame? It looks simply fantastic, but was curious how heavy, and /or cumbersome it is.
Between you and HEH, and the work you guys have done on your boards, I'm feeling like a horse's posterior for using the ole "straight-outta-the-box-onto-the-kitchen-table" method to play the game, and not making my own board.

Maybe 5 pounds?? The sides are framed with oak and the bottom that you can't see under the dungeon tiles is a thin piece of nice thin piece of forgotten material (wood). It's probably plywood and looks nice sanded down?? Of course the felt has been lined on the bottom of it to cut down on scuffing my dining room table.
All in all I'd guess 5 pounds and it's not that cumbersome at all.
I'm no wiz with wood (wow that sounds bad), just look at the pics and you can see how easy the design really is. It should cost no more than $30.00 in wood and just a little time.
I would have liked a bigger drill bit for the recessed areas for the chits but I am bound by what tools I have available.
I encourage anyone to make one of these or one of their own design because it really does enhance the play and puts all the pieces in easy reach without the cluttered mess.

Also if the game has to be paused and put away somewhere, it's incredibly easy to pick up the platform and relocate. This has happened a few times with my son and I.
I won't leave all the pieces and cards within my 3-years old's reach!

Ha ha ha, I had to deal with the reach of a three year old once but now the reach is that of a ten year old and she finally knows better. I can't say the same for her infernal cat however. Pets and small children aside, it makes moving it off to the side nice and easy like you said.

Post your link later so I can check it out.
I've been posting a lot of DT stuff on YouTube to spread the word as best I can.
In my opinion, the game could use some exposure here in the states.
Here's the foamcore with my storage stuff:

Good stuff, I like the cobblestone effect. Was that song on "room tiles" a Love and Rockets tune? It sounded oddly familiar but I couldn't place it.
Either way, I enjoy watching vids about stuff I'm into so it was fun to watch. The way you package your DT stuff is how I treat my Descent game + expansions. It's fun just to organize when your not playing.

Thanks Royaldoy. Yeah that's 'It Could Be Sunshine' on L&R's classic Express album. I thought the lyrics were perfect for the subject matter! I have Muddy Waters playing in Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98KPIxGU6xk)
I think my storage solution is darned near perfect, but we'll see what happens when Dungeon Twister 2 arrives, complete with miniatures and regular-sized playing cards! Re-organizing! But that ain't a bad thing, is it? :o
I notice that all the sets have pics of half-naked dungeon girls...
It's my only gripe with the artwork - some of those female figures are dressed too scantily for my family gaming.

Yeah, sam with some of my warhammer and AT-43 books. I just take a stip of black paper and put a little "censored box" ove the, err, buzooms.

I see that Dungeon Twister 2: Prison, is up for release, or is already. Looks like this is a stand alone game though the description says it is backwards compatible with all the Dungeon Twister releases.
Even though it's not, should I treat this like an expansion since it works with all the existing products, and just start from the beginning?

We played the new version along with the old 3/4 player expansion at BGG Con and had a blast. No issues with compatibility.
It works fine with the older versions but can also be a good as a standalone version too.
The new set also includes solo rules.
They were very smart keeping it backwards compatible.

My son and I had not played Dungeon Twister for a long time and just played Sunday night. I have the figures for the original set and the paladins. Nice to see they are included in the prison expansion.
Hex_Enduction_Hour has always been a big DT fan and kept this thread moving. I see he has not had a post since June.

You will really enjoy. It is like playing a game of chess in a dungeon. Lots of strategy and no luck involved.
