I was grabbin' something quick at Target today and took a quick stroll past the Boardgame section. I thought i'd check just in case the new Thaelenks Tundra or Raknars Vision had arrived. I looked from left to right starting w/ the Master Set when i noticed the price below it: $9.98. Now i thought this might have been mistagged but it said Hero Set on the Label so maybe i was misplaced. The only other 2 prices had 11.99 and 9.99 so it wasn't outta' place. Well long story short i played 'dumbfounded' when i went to the register and they had to do a price check before they ok'd the $9.98. So always, ALWAYS check the shelf tags because you just never know when you'll get a break. The really nize thing about this is i'm going to be demo-ing Heroscape and Pitch Car and one of our Boardgaming Conventions next month and this 4th set will come in handy.

great find.
You have 4 sets, but only 2 posts?
You have more MS's than posts! Rectify that!

I was just late joining the party due to Family problems..or rather problems w/ family dying lately. I use to post frequently on HeroscapeHQ. (1 post down, 1 more to go...lol)

I went to my local Target tonight and they no longer have shelf labels for the large expansions. They only had one master set, so it appears that my local store will stop carrying Heroscape.

I think that day was a long time ago. My feeling is that Heroscape might be a seasonal holiday stock item instead of a regular item at WM here in the future.....
It is sad to see it treated as it is right now.

my target has master set for 40, hero set(small expansion above the tag) for 10. I could try the play dumb thing, but I'm not sure I'm capable.

I am not quite so Doom and Gloom on this but if it happens it happens. I will buy all I can and then just shop online. If it is the end of brick and mortar then I say the Aug 13th rollover at wal-Mart like I mentioned on my other thread is the day to get there. One last hurrah so to speak.

I'm curious to know what the ratio of sales is for Online to BnM.
That and I bet the "Suits" feel they still reach more people in a store isle vs. cyberspace.

That's me! :P
Seriuosly even if the Game ended this year there is MORE that enough terrain and figures to keep it interesting.Just becasue they stop producing new stuff does not mean the game has to die.
Besides I am betting you will keep making custom units for the nex decade or so.

If the poll here has any validity, store isle positioning is the most effective way to market to new HeroScape buyers.

Don't assume too much yet. When I went into Target a couple days ago, I noticed the Master Set alone on the bottom shelf where it's always been and different games beside it. I was sad, thinking they had stopped carrying the expansions. BUT... then I found them on the next shelf up, a little to the side. The shelf was clearly marked, although there was only one OR and a wolf pack there. Why they would put them in a different place, I have no idea. But they were there.

well....
around these parts (Tampa Fl.) they cant keep heroscape on the shelf at wm....never hit the bargin bin ...all expansions when they come in sell within a week and they usually bring in 2 cases.... they have expanded the section.
and that just the walmart closest to me ....I have found it similar to the 3 others near me and target.....
it would be stupid if they didnt carry heroscape it seems to be the fastest seller on the game isle

Yeah, most of the Wal-Marts near me have the same situation. They even sold the 3 sets of 4th Mass that were sitting around.
Of course, another Wal-Mart about 1/2 an hour away was clearing out their Master Sets at $15 a piece. I didn't see any expansions, or even any tags for expansions there. Now, I presume they have nothing Heroscape related.
However, I ended up buying 4 master sets from them - 2 of the EOVs for $10 each, bringing my master set total up to 6.

I'd like to know how well HS sells compared to other games. I just don't get it. I mean come on, as soon as you play Heroscape, you are addicted! How does Monopoly do so well? Who wants a Monopoly for every single movie on the planet, when you could have 42 Master Sets? :D

People talk about the end of brick and mortar like its no big deal.
Doesn't anyone else worry that if the line can't be found at local stores, it will eventually cease to be?
It's a line targeted towards CHILDREN. Children aren't all going to scour the online stores and obscure game shops...children are going to get things they see on the shelf and that mom and dad can pick up on a typical run to the local store.
At least that's my view.

I discovered heroscape on accident.
I was just goofing off in a walmart and saw a big box with an alien on it and kind of just figured I'd check it out. The window under the flap showed interlocking hex tiles. So me and a friend went in half on the thing figuring if the game sucked, the tiles could be used for other games that we always do. Nothing beats interlocking customisable terrain.
But low and behold the game rocked. (and I have since reinbursedthat friend for the 20$ he pitched in because it quickly became 'my' game)
I order most of my stuff online, but I'd hate for it to just end in BnM stores because thats where it gets exposure. Internet shopping is fine for people who already know of the thing, but it isn't a place to get full exposure like that.

This is why I want to know what Hasbro's official veiws are, because if Hasbro thinks its a faliure, then they might be cutting the program.
I don't think that brick and mortar stores are getting the point, because of the way the distribution is worked. If CURRENT product was on the shelves, then I believe that this game would have the potential to be the best board game on the shelves. But, Hasbro dosen't seem to want to go the extra mile to get the product on the shelves.

Well that depends on the ratio of Cyber vs. BnM and the cost point they sell to each at. They might sell a butt load to Wally World but at a slimmer profit margin. Maybe they make some bigger coin selling to the Cyber sellers. Who knows.
Am I afraid about the game ending? Not really. I think I would be bummded (sp) about no new terrain...but the possibilities and combinations with the current units is more than a life time worth of gaming. I mean no disrespect when I say this but it's just a game. Gaming to me is about hanging out having some beers and having a GOOD time. So Scape folds. There is always a new game around the corner that I haven't yet played.

I doubt it would survive via web only. To get the higher margins with online sales I am sure Hasbro needs the Wal-Mart/TRU production volume.
And you are right, enough HS stuff has been released to play for years to come.

I don't know if I would say that the ratio of BnM to On-line sales would really tell us anything. On-line I've been able to buy all of the pieces I wanted (and at higher prices + shipping), and I have not been able to find any of the latest expansions at traditional stores. Had the local Targets, Wal-marts or even TRU had the wave 4 expansion, the Tundra, or the Raknar's vision I would have bought them there instead of on-line. Just my 2 cents. Can I have my change now?

It's the Lakeside Target at 44th and Sheridan. I get the feeling it was just a pricing error. But i'm gonna' run by there Sunday just to double check that theory. ;)

pm me if you find more pricing errors and product left. I don't think I can let a master set go by for that price even though I didn't plan on getting more.

What that means is some folks are taking this too seriously. It's not life or death....it is a game, a game desigensd for kids that most of us have made our own.
To me gaming is not about a particualr game, it's about the experience you have while gaming with those around you. I'm not talking winning or losing. I'm talking about having fun.
