I did notice that on the HQ, there was a good 25, or something posts per page. Here I think that there are just 15. This isn't that big of a complaint but there is slightly more clicking...

But it causes faster page loads so if your keeping up on a thread by poping in on the last page you get a faster load.

Oh yeah I guess so, it is faster than the HQ by far.

Although Kenntak disagreed with me, it was after the switch to 25 posts per page that I first noticed that the HQ really slowed down. I like the 15 posts per page setup. I've missed it since the HQ did away w/it.

K/H/DVF/Freak or whatever you're gonna go by now, I know that you're a younger member, but the reality is that there are going to be those of us who make donations to help 'truth out. Therefore it is his site, but we're paying for it, too. This is something that I like about this place. I feel a sense of ownership and don't have the feeling that I'm kicked back in somebody else's house w/my bare feet up on their dining room table, demanding that their wife (whom I've just referred to as "little woman") get me another beer.

I'm deeply indebted to truth and all the folks that made this place happen. If you are younger or don't contribute, it's all good, but there is something to be said for helping out, if you can.

He's right the community is paying for it. They are just trusting me based on past reputation to manage it. Also if donations were to fall short (and they aren't) then it would fall back on me, but based on what i've seen so far we are in good conditon. Be on the look out on the front page for an article concerning the finacial state of the site.

but there is something to be said for helping out, if you can.

Is there some guideline as to what a reasonable and customary contribution would be?

That and if everything is going swimmingly can we expect to see some sort of drawing for an expansion or something of that nature?

I am fine with 15 posts per page. I do prefer 25 though, but in order to keep things loading quickly I have no problem with 15.

Wise advice, 'doc.

While I hate clicking extra unneccessary buttons ;) I think 15 is okay, it keeps things loading nice and quick.

YEah, it doesn't actually waste as much time. I can read the fifteen posts per page and then quickly go to the next page. Unlike the HQ where it took me like, a minute to get from one page to another...

I've gotten donations everywhere from $2 to $50 average donations have been around $15. It's really whatever you want to throw at the site. I will be renewing the hosting package once a year. I'm confident that we will not go over 300GB of bandwidth a month and so I believe hosting costs will be about $330 per year.

I can promise you that every penny donated will go back into the site and you will all have a vote as to how it is used.

I can tell you I'm already at $450 in donations! I think that this first donation run will be the most productive so I would like to see 2 full years worth of hosting funds to come in so that we stay a year ahead. Once a year the administration will likely mention making a yearly donation again for that year. All funds coming in causing the total to go over two years worth of site hosting will go back into the site in other ways.

Ideas for possible fund spending:

A donation to another site on behalf of this site, like logery for his work on LANDscape.

A site wide contest or drawing.

A Heroscapers hosted tourney at GenCon 07 (if Sandra decides not to host us agian)

Feel free to add to these ideas.

I think posting financial status of the page is a good thing but possibly only make it available to registered members (not paying just registered.) I also think that sending money or support to other HS sites is a great idea. A little help to pay for webspace/domain name registration sends a nice "appreciate ya" to those hard working people.

Didnt .net have 15 posts per page? I think it did, so i guess by having 15 posts per page here, we are sorta putting .net back into it's "afterlife" somewhat.

It did, and then HQ did too. But then it was changed to 25.

HQ was slow from the start. We got multiple promises on multiple occasions that it could and would be fixed...

O, ok. Idont know much about HQ because I joined a few weeks ago. I joined so late because I was a bit shocked as to why .net fell. It makes me sad, but we have to move on. I excited to see what this site will do in the future. Looking forward to it!

I really prefer the 15 posts per page. The 25 just seemed a little overwhelming sometimes, especially if there were lots of pictures therein, and then the loading would really take forever.

I also like this site because the minimum length for a user name is shorter, on the old one, I couldn't use Egg... this one is much better. I know I'm in the wrong thread for this, but Thank you to all involved in setting up the new site.

I am starting to like the 15 posts per page now too. It doesn't bother me at all...
