First, I'm not sure I spelled that right, so I'm sorry to anyone that is offended if it isn't.

Second, I got VW from a friend, who didn't give me the rule book, so I'm not really sure about how it's to be used.

I know that unless you can walk on lava you're basically screwed anytime you get on it, but I'd like someone to clarify the rules involved with lava.

On the tial thats like water hight you must roll a d20 and on 1 (or 20 i dont recall) you live, otherwise its "hotlavadeath!" and your guy dies.
this is instantly.
on the tial thats the same size as other tials, any figures on them at the end of the round must roll one attack die, if you get a skull, that guy takes 1 dammage.

The instructions say:
"MOLTEN LAVA TILES...
treat molten lava spaces like water spaces except for the following:
When a figure moves onto a molten lava space, you must roll for molten lava damage.
Double-spaced figures: When a double-space figure stops in one or two molten lava spaces, it must roll only one for molten lava damage.
Rolling for molten lava damage: Roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 20, your figure has miraculously survived. If you roll a 1-19, your figure is destroyed.
Flying: Figures with the special power Flying may fly over molten lava without rolling for molten lava damage.
...
LAVA FIELD TILES
...There are no special rules for moving onto or through lava field spaces. However, at the end of the round, all figures still on lava field spaces must roll to see if they take lava field damage.

Double-spaced figures with one space on a lava field tile must still roll for lava field damage. Double-spaced figures that occupy two lava field spaces roll only once for lava field damage.

Rolling for lava field damage: In turn order, all players must roll for all their figures on lava field spaces. To do this, roll one attack die. If you roll a skull, that figure takes a wound. Otherwise it is safe. Players may choose in what order to roll for their own figures."

Link to the official website's Volcarren page where you can read the details yourself:

By no means ragging on you MBS: the terrain rules for all the terrain expansions can be found on the "official" (but infrequently updated :) ) Hasbro Site (http://heroscape.com) - it's just that the rules are posted (counter-intuitively) at links that are accessed from the Character tab on the main page menu (like the direct link that GB provided for VW.)

Hasbro has a site??? and it actually gets updated? Next thing you're going to tell me they are actually keeping their on-line store stocked.

You're pulling my leg aren't you. :)

Yeah, I figured they were probably out there somewhere, but this page is one of my three tabs I have on mozilla, and so it makes it easier for me to just come here, ask a question, go to work, and then come home and read the answer.

I uploaded a pdf I put together with all the terrain rules in it. Hope it helps.

Flying: Figures with the special power Flying may fly over molten lava without rolling for molten lava damage.

Can you leave a figure with flying on molten lava w/o having to roll the d20?

No. It says fly over. It says nothing about stopping on. Its the same premise as a flying figure being no a glyph. If he stops there, he's on the gylph and not flying above it.

If you were using Annerios' true flying mechanics than you could do this and "hover" over a hex.
