View Full Version : A challenge

Everyone keeps talking about how the little maps hinder the game for MS. Everybody wants to combine the HS and MS terrain to make epic maps, now I'm not against that at all, I can't wait to try that out myself. However, I am on this little thing called a budget and I only have 1 Master set, 1 castle, and now MS, no other terrain expansions. I would love to go out and by several MS sets, hell the wall alone is worth it to me, or Master sets and build great maps. I don't see that happening anytime soon, for one I would rather buy more figs. Anyway, my challenge to the Scaper faithfull is this; build the best map you can with the Marvel set and only the Marvel set. Lets see what we can do with the tools we were given. Post some pics and we will talk about them.
I think that would be a great thing to do at a Con or game day. Best Marvel map contest. But, anyhow, do you accept this task that has been put before you? I'm going to try it myslef and see what I can do.

Just a test run I guess. Given time I could make a scenerio. The design of it is supposed to be that there was some kind of massive event, earthquake, doomsday weapon, whatever, and that is why there are gaps. By using gaps you can space the map out. It makes the leaping, flying, swinging more fun and more in line with the feel of a comic. I'll have to play it and see how it goes.

Creative use of empty space to stretch out the terrain! I like some of your ideas and I'll probably try something along the same lines when I get my Marvelscape.

In order to stretch out my maps, I added some mats that made for lakes. See my post here:

Printing and laminating 3 (2 of which were 8.5 x 14) lakes cost around 11 dollars.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but if you own the classic master set, as you say, why don't you want to use that in your marvel maps? I don't think it's possible to make a truly excellent map with JUST the marvel terrain...certainly a servicable map or a playable map, but not an excellent map. There's simply too little terrain to offer any real excitement. I think it is possible to make an excellent map with just the classic master set though, and adding a Marvel master set to the Classic master set can easily result in amazing maps.

I know when my Marvelscape eventually arrives *sigh* I'll be mixing it with the rest of my terrain more often than not.
I forsee doing a water mat (yay Cav) and industrial dam (w/Castle pillars) map for sure.

I'm curios as to why. I thought you just counted gaps when using special movement powers. Am I thinking of counting range?
I will need to get some of those mats. Not just for Marvel, but the city block mat is awesome.

Yeah, once I get more zombies, I also want to do a few zombie infestation scenarios on that City Block mat (you know, once I get a mat ...)
So much I want, so little money/patience ...

I never said anything about a truly excellent map, just the best map you could make with just the Marvel set. It is just something to challenge people, I wanted to see some kewl map ideas, thats all really.
