View Full Version : Paper Terrain for MarvelScape
Lotus

Somewhere along the line I made a post considering whipping up some paper terrain for MarvelScape. I am able to design the templates, however I am not the most graphically skilled person on the planet. Therefore wondered for those with mad graphics skills if people could help color in the templates I make.
Out of boredom I whipped up a mailbox, thinking it may be a neat first project, it doesn't have the tabs and such on it yet, as it was just an experiment, but if you can do color it nicely, I'd be much obliged to see how it turns out.
Also, anyone care to print this and try it out . . . I am out of ink and have to wait for it to come in the mail, stupid printer.
I still need to figure out the best way to design the templates, right now I am using Autorealm, which seems perfect, but I don't know how to get it to save as a BMP to scale.
EDIT: Image helps.

Not a bad idea, but why not just buy the Heroclix outdoor set? You get a crate, mailbox, dumpster, and street light. They're already to scale with the Heroscape figures.
Also, aren't there currently companies that sell templates for pre-colored cars and vans etc that are the right size for heroscape?

Yes there are, but note one thing, all these things cost money.
This is designed to be a free project to better the communty by allowing those of us with very little disposable income to improve our maps.
Also, buildings will be up here eventually.

Lotus, I will take a stab at this later. I will also see about uploading the building designs I have made, but they are far from finalized.

Is there a way to have this put in the downloads with out the sample so people can downlaod and print?
Also if you make it out of hard paper you should be able to have the figures stand on them without falling apart.

I found a site that has free downloads of paper buildings of various types as well as some street furniture items like vending machines. Thought you all might want to take a peek and maybe download and try. My printer is non-functional or I would myself. Hope it help expand things and maybe gives some inspiration.

Streets of MAyhem is also fantastic. With Lightpoles, Construction Signage, Train Crossing gate (train & street tiles just add a hex outline).
Bits of Mayhem contains a Phone booth, Fire Templates, Man Hole Covers,
PhoneBooths, Dumpsters, Bus Shelters, Waste Bins, Vending Machines, Park Benches, Nes Boxes and Parking Meters. Oh, and cars made to the 28mm scale. Plus barrels to pick up and throw at your enemies!
Might as well pick up the rest of the Modern sets. With Armoury you get a Pickup Truck and a nice looking building with interiors. The new Police Station set is so chock full of props..I'd fill an entire page with that list.
And the Subway set would be exatly what Marvel HS needs.
All the sets are dead easy to build and with a little to no modification should fit nicely into HS.

Well, I also have a lot of other paper terrain free download items on my computer at home, the downside is that a lot of the sites I got it from have since gone down. I have been downloading this kind of stuff for a while. So I can't provide weblinks for a lot of it.
I also don't know if all of them have the creators info on it, so not sure it would be good to post them here. I'll have to go through my files this weekend. Maybe I can have some more links to load here. I know I have scifi related corridors (great for supervillain bases). I also have shipping containers and quite a bit of other stuff too. So keep an eye out and I may have some stuff up. And yes, WorldWorks Games has awesome stuff across the boards from what I can see.

Other suggestions: shipping containers, big rectangular stacks of lumber, jersey barriers, some big radiation or biohazard signs.

Well, you're going to have printing and supplies costs, no matter what you choose. To be fair, then, you simply have to count the cost of the WorldWorks products themselves.
At a minimum, I think you need the Bits of Mayhem ($15) and Streets of Mayhem ($12). So that's $27. But the other options are tempting as well, so it can add up.
I've posted my own picture showing what I've put together so far here: http://heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=10391. Scroll down the thread to see my second picture (The topmost picture just shows my first progress report).
By the way, I'm not trying to discourage this project. But everyone needs to understand that there will be expenses involved, no matter what option you choose.

Here are some other sites I verified as being active that have various building usable for a board. Many are either German or Japanese sites, but the directions should be pretty easy to follow in most cases.
A few of the models may need a little judicious resizing before being printed as well since scales vary. Still, whether whole or in part, many of these models may have use for bits, in total, or just to inspire.

Looking pretty good Lotus.
I like how the road paint looks worn and faded in areas...but I think your "yellow lines" are a bit too thick and out of scale. I'd suggest making them 1/2 as thick, at least. And then move them closer together.

Thanks for the comments guys, and Penitus, the bases are just Master set spares.
Doc Savage, I plan to make the Manhole cover throwable, seemed like a good idea. Though I will probably just make a glyph out of it instead.
Fl0ydski, the Yellow lines were surprisingly easy, in GIMP I made a selection box and then took the 19 pixel faded edge paintbrush and colored it in, leaving it thin in spots. I purposely made them a little large, they are meant to fill a hex width. I could make them a bit smaller though.
The manhole cover is actually a picture of a Manhole cover rug . . . but it looked very convincing especially at that scale, I'd like to make one that says "Property of Scape City"

I good at texturing. If you can make the foldouts, I can make some lifelike textures.

Ok since you asked so nicely....give me a little bit to switch computers.
All 3 files have been uploaded to THE BIN section of the Downloads Page.
Enjoy.

Could somebody take a picture of these, preferably in use with a Marvel set, and post it here? I'd like to use a pic of 'em for something, but I'm not the greatest photographer. Thanks.
