Thing is, I had already done a deal with the guy, and I suppose because I am 18 and can still remember trading from 13 on and never outing a single person in the process, I made an exception. Not to mention that he messaged me literally every time I signed on aim. A shame really, but I guess theres a chance he's lacking on the responsibility front and not being plain old malicious.Just a random shout out I have not heard from venom_killed_superman around a week after paying him. I've done one successful deal with him, but now he's up and vanished and has not replied to my messages offline aim or on here. Anyone else having issues with him?

Just a little background info for anyone considering a trade with VKS...Check the latest bad trader's post linked above. I would put it all here but it is really long and I don't want to clutter this up too much with a bunch of negativity.

Be warned, it isn't pleasant. When you dig around in trash you find unpleasant things.

To be blunt: I thoroughly regret defending him the way I did. Anyone who wants to send me an, "I told ya so!" feel free.

This is why you don't trade with minors. Me, I'm in a different situaition. I can drive to his house, knock on his door, and talk with his mother about the situation. If you're in Oregon or California, it's probably not a bad idea to NOT trade with a minor 4000 miles away.

Caveat Emptor, people. I have had 50+ positive trades on Heroscapers.com now and a few hundred elsewhere (yes, I am trying to keep FedEx in business, personally) and if you make sure you know who you're dealing with, and do your due dilligence, you'll be better off.

Trade Rules For Skeptics:
1. Never trade with ANYONE you cannot drive to and back from in a weekend to recover your stuff. It may cost you some money, but at least you can get recovery.

2. Never, ever, ever trade with any minors unless you've talked to their parents personally, or unless you have friends within 30 minutes to contact their parents personally.

3. When a person has little Rep, or has few trade certifications, don't do it unless you're within the same state.

These 3 rules do limit what you can find, but they also limit your liability. Just remember how YOU were when you were <18, and keep that in mind when trying to do a business deal with a minor.

Not really. Just because you didn't have your head entirely up your bum at 15 doesn't mean you're indicative of all 15 year olds either, now does it.

First, as a grown up, I ASK the tradee if they are a minor or not. Not only do I almost always STOP THERE if they are, I then PM them back telling them that for their own safety they shouldn't be online giving their address to complete strangers.

There's some sick F$#&s out there, and by doing so you're setting yourself up to get snatched, tortured and killed by some pedophile sicko. Read NinthDoc's excellent post about this subject in the Scapers Online forum.

Personally, if you're out there doing this sort of thing, I'm again thinking I don't want to deal with you because if your parents are irresponsible enough to LET you do it, either directly or by neglecting to understand your online habits, your parenting may be inadequate which AGAIN would indicate that it's not a good idea to get into a trade with you. If I don't have the opportunity to email or talk to a parent before trading, I'd be really uncomfortable, since as a parent, I'd want to know who my kids are talking to online.

Like it or not, safety of the kids here and potential litigation down the road, both criminal and/or civil, is a concern and should be paramount to every person who considers themselves to be a good online citizen.

As you may have heard before, and I tell you that I hated hearing it too, this is something you will understand when you're older.

The flipside is that if some kid goes missing, his browsing habits end up at the FBI and some agent shows up at my door asking where I was on So-And-So Date and Time, I'd be pissed off.

It's just not wise for either party involved.

Remember that "communicating in an adult fashion" does not in any way make you safe from a predator. Just because you're honorable does NOT mean that the person offering the trade is. Further, the ability to communicate at a higher level of vocabulary is NOT indicative of good judgement. If you are a minor and you trade on ANY site, even one as innocuous and safe as this one, you are putting yourself at tremendous potential risk, and you should ALWAYS consult with your parents first and have them involved.

Sick bastards are VERY good at making you feel "safe and comfortable" or they wouldn't be able to perpetrate the crimes they commit. If a con man isn't a good con man, he's not a con man, he's just a bad liar, right?

I think it's just two different lifestyles. If I asked my mom's opinion she'd back me up, however if I asked my Granduncle he'd probably side with you. I think that we just have to agree to disagree and get back to trading.

Well, I am slightly offended by your post, but on the same front I do agree with what you said. I am offended by you grouping "teens" into some group that is more trouble then good. I held my first HS tournament at 15, my second at 16...and have made three trades in between those times. (you can ask any one of the people at my tournament how it went, and how I was...or any of the people in my sig) I would hold more, but school and other activities prevent me from holding them more often. However, I do agree that some people out there are just looking for the next scam. Thats why I have taken your wise advise in trading....look to trade with respected people on the site (which means I normally end up sending first) Over time you get respect, and then can request other people who are new to send first. (and note 4-5 trades doesnt exactly say good trader....it just says they may be a good trader some day.)

Just a thing on the argument of pedophiles:That is why you look at the location of the individual and his/her trading history. If you live in another state it is unlikely you will fall victim.
I'm fifteen, but I live in Oregon. There are very few members who live in my home state, therefore essentially I have nothing to worry about.

My default state when dealing with people is paranoia, even with the people I see in person. If I see someone in a doorway I'm about to pass, I cut wide around it to give myself more time to react to any movement.

On a somewhat related note, my uncle is an officer in the Nevada Highway Patrol, and he said once that "smart people don't get caught committing crimes." I think that a better way to put it is that "smart people don't commit crimes they don't know how to get away with." And working an and being two states away from a crime scene is a fairly good buffer. The internet isn't all fun and games, it's a reflection of man (and mankind as a whole is in no way trustworthy) all you hangouters should get your parent's permission and consent even before listing here.

As the title states, I have a full set of everything and I'd like to get rid of it.

Older sets have been opened and played with, a few cards show some wear.

Newer sets have been kept sealed, I only purchased them to make sure I still had a complete set.

That is true but I said look at their trade history as well. Anyone with positive feedback is a legitimate member, who is pobably not someone who is going to fly in and abduct me. And most put a location on there. Your's says you live in Austin. If you had a positive trade history, that means odds are low that you will fly across half the country, abduct me, and then do terrible things to me.

Man, you guys just don't understand the con game. The first thing someone with ill intent would do is establish themselves, creating an aura of "safety". Then, after a period of time, they'd pick a target and strike. The best defense for them would be, "Hey, I've traded with plenty of folks". You really think that someone would go to a website, randomly pick a person out for nefarious deeds, then approach them on the blind? Who would fall for that? They would certainly have to establish bona-fides before attacking.

I do the same thing at my job. I call the customer, establish a relationship where I insert myself into their operations and make myself a "trusted advisor", then I start to peddle my products. If I just walked in and said, "Hey, I'm Pete, wanna buy some stuff?" I'd have been fired long ago for incompetence and would be at Clown School or Barber College trying to find a job more suitable for my <lack of> skills. These internet predators are no different - haven't you heard of that show on MSNBC that they trap sick perverts and out them on TV just before they're sent to prison where they'll spend several years catching syphillis and AIDS from the 'attention' of their cellmates? The MO is always the same: Earn Trust, Betray Trust.

Thanks Quozl, I know! We do have wave 10 to be honest, but we are "completists" so we really liked the "originals"! :D

And I must confess, about a year ago we didn't have one Heroscape miniature. We were lucky to find quite a lot of them (and all "sealed and new"). A pity about the ones we do not have!

Not a bad post. It's fairly well-written which is always a plus and you're polite.

The bad news is that to get even a very wimpy collection with, say, 1x of everything will run into the $700-1000 range, most likely. Good luck. It's my main gripe about the game right now - too expensive for newcomers to build up a solid collection right now. And yes, I'm fully aware that no one "HAS" to have everything but ask yourself this, "Once you realize that you'd love this game, wouldn't you want to at least have a few sets of everything in order to be able to try out a good variety of army builds?"

I think for many gamers the answer would be yes and right now, they're totally screwed, imho, unless they hit the local lotto. :(

I wish WotC would take a bit of a risk and release at least small amounts of every set or heck, even an awesomely cool "Super Mega Collector's Set" with 1x of every unit in the game. Could be cool (though probably not feasible).

It's the same reason I never bothered getting into Magic: The Gathering once a few years had gone by - I could never own all the cards and for completists (especially) that's a HUGE turn-off.

Nothing wrong with the post and welcome to the hobby (and the forum). I just saw this (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?p=1036055#post1036055) thread in another sub forum and I think it might be the thing for you. This thread is a great place to find this or that, but if you are just looking to start piling up some stuff, hitting Craigslist spots around the country might be just the thing. And that thread is all about doing that for 'Scape.

You can sometimes find a collection like this on ebay for around 400-500. When I was first getting into scape I was looking for a collection like this. I was bidding on one on ebay, but stopped at $300, and it sold for around $315. I've been kicking myself in the arse ever since then. Now I've spent most of my money, so I gave up.

I've never used craigslist to deal with someone that wasn't local. And frankly I don't think I ever would, I like the fact that it forces a face-to-face deal between people, and the reduced risk of being punked that causes.

I suppose I maybe should have added an asterisk with a comment about having a local craigslist "hub," I just didn't think to as San Diego is one.

Hey Folks,

I'm new to the hobby. I'm coming from a heavy background of gaming (Tabletop, RPGs, CCGs, CCMini games, etc) and its only been recently that my fiance and I got into heroscape... so far its been a blast! The only downside I've found to the hobby is how difficult it is to locate most of the figures.

Based on some feedback in the general discussion forum, I was directed here. I was hoping I might be able to track down some of the figures I'm after. Below is a list of the minis I'd really like to get. Let me know if you'd be willing to sell the figures. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to trade in terms of HS, but I do have some Warhammer and LotR stuff I'd be willing to trade if that peaks your interest.

I have a 220 gtr on bartertown, thats 110 good trades total. That said, I understand if that doesnt carry weight here. If you have a commendable background through this forum I'll gladly take the chance and pay up front... but if not, don't bother offering as I'm too big of a wuss to take a risk.
