View Full Version : Onyx Vipers?

Can someone give me the stats on the Onyx vipers?
I look on ebay for pictures, but the cards in the pictures are a little too obscured to make out what they are saying (other than the # stats)
I see on the card that there are THREE abilities, compared with the normal vipers 2... what's the abilities?
And are their frenzy numbers different?
I'd just like to know pretty much everything their card says.

They have Slither and Frenzy like the Venocs, but they also have
EVASIVE 8
When an Elite Onyx Viper rolls defense dice against an attacking figure who is not adjacent, add 8 defense dice to the defending viper.
1 life
move 7
range 1
attack 3
defense 2
100 points
they are 'scouts' so they get the movement enhancement from the Venoc Warlord (as well as the Frenzy enhancement for their Frenzy ability).

Interesting that one card says 100 points and the other says 90.
Mine, here at the house, says 100, so I guess I don't get the 10% discount. :?

Hahn - let's not start that again. It wasn't terribly funny the FIRST time. Using it on Newbs is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Do tell - I for one have no idea what you're talking about (I *thought* that my card says 90 points, but don't quote me on it). Oh, and the forum search function appears to be b0rked, or I'd have searched first, obviously.

The picture Hahn posted was a hoax card that a member made when we heard about the Onyx Viper being released. There was a HUGE uproar at the HQ when it was revealed to be a hoax.
All the searches are currently down, we are working to get them back up and running ASAP. Unfortunately I am at work and won't have a chance to look at it myself until tonight.

Uh-oh...seen this one before. I remember after the initial outrage, it was pretty damn funny.
I am torn between the two cards though Evasive 8 for 100 points or Rage for 90...hmmmn.

Red Pill or Blue Pill, yeah, I like the Elite Onyx but it seems that they don't serve a purpose as often as I'd like them to.

Yes, I know. I was just trying to give the general idea of what happened.

If you want to give a general idea to newbies you should get a very powerful metal fan, turn it on high, and then throw about three tons of cow manure into the blades.

Messageboards with topics that appeal to geeks tend to get worked up about EVERYTHING, so when you give them something to actually get worked up about they explode.

Yes, that thread was a good example of why hoax jokes are best admitted to by the author after only a few hours. As I recall, it ran for days and the thread was huge.
erf. Lessons were learned, except by Hahn, he's eeeee-veeeelll.
I'm hoping to get some time before this weekend to catch up on my scanning of cards, I'll be sure to get the cleaner onyx card up. All the "official" cards will be in the gallery:

I miss my cards everytime we are apart. They sit at home lonely, feeling unused and wanting me to come home. I should just take them with me everywhere.

Didn't some regulars leave HQ because of Onyx-gate and never come back?
The whole thing was hugely amusing to me - both the hoax and even more so the post-hoax drama and flaming. You'd think we had nothing better to do.......

Yes, that thread was a good example of why hoax jokes are best admitted to by the author after only a few hours. As I recall, it ran for days and the thread was huge.Imagine how bad it woulda been if I hadn't have exposed it quasi-accidentally when I did. :headbang:
I forget what clue was left, or what was said, but it finally got exposed.
I thought it was a wonderful proof that customs can easily be better than official units, hands down, there was the objective proof.
I mean look at the cards, abilities, design-work, etc - there are MUCH better designers working on custom units, IMO, than many official units.
Having said that, I think both the EOV and the spoof are substandard units - hideously overpriced, and not creative. Funny thing is, the fake EOV actually brought something new to the game of Heroscape - the official EOV didn't.
Lessons learned, all? ;)
(except Hahn - he's a no-lesson-learnin' evil man, to bring it up again.
bravo. )

I don't really do the whole 'I'm a geek and get worked up over games' thing.
But I do tend to get upset when someone lies to me, no matter the circumstance.

I think that the fake EOV card should be in the Hall of Fame....it may not be the greatest unit, but it probably had the greatest impact on the online HS community, and for that reason alone it deserves a spot....just out of sheer influence and infamy.

I found out about the hoax only after it was revealed, and I completely misunderstood which part was made up -- I thought the entire claim of a Wal-Mart exclusive was part of the hoax, and that the figures were never going to be produced.
When the EOV Master Set actually came out and I started reading all the posts about people finding it, and then about people finding whole shelf-fulls of them on clearance, I thought everyone was just playing up the joke.
The weird thing was, those threads were really funny when I thought the entire collective community was having a laugh at the expense of the few newbies who hadn't heard about the hoax.
Boy, did I feel dumb when I actually saw the EOV set at my local Wal-Mart.

I found some sets and bought them 'cause I thought they'd be worth something someday, so I have three unopened EOV Master sets now...
I thought if somebody really wanted them and was attending Gencon I could meet up and make a deal...

The only problem is that we can't see those picture very well. I mean we can see the cards, but that's we can't really see much else. I see the power names: Slither, Frenzy and Rage. Anyone mind saying what Rage did?

You only need to copy what's inside the quotation marks. Not the whole code. Just take that and paste it into the http://www.heroscapers.com/community/images/editor/insertimage.gif box.
